this problem is refered to as "crash to desktop" or "ctd"
there are quite a few threads regarding possible solutions, I suggest you search the forums first

if it fails run PR in windowed mode (search forum/google on how to do that) this should throw an error message which again you can use to search the forum/google

if all fails report back what you have tried and what you have come up with so far (don't forget to post your specs)

Ok lets clear a few things up:
Is this a new problem? i.e. has PR worked flawlessly before?
Is there any pattern in the crash? (always the same map, same amount of time into the game...)
Can you think of any change (software installation, windows update, new firewall) that might have caused this to start?
Another thing, although you are using XP RAM might still be an issue, have you tried increasing your pagefile yet?
Check your RAM for defects using a tool like memtest.exe or a linux live cd's memtest.
Does this problem only occur in PR or also BF2?

In some rare cases PB has caused CTDs, try manually reinstalling it. (using pbsvc.exe and pbsetup.exe)
