Recovering tipped vehichles
Are you fed up of seeing a good truck go to waste just because the driver hit a bump and tipped the vehicle?
Well I have a solution if the devs are interested...
In reality a squad of big burly troops and a few ropes is enough to tip the vehicle back up right and on it's wheels - is this programmable?. Heck I have even seen documentaries about some military units that use high pressure inflatables to correct tipped vehicles - is this programmable?
So devs here is the Jim'll Fix it challenge...
Please
please
please
make a programme to fix trucks that I was stupid enough to tip, please give my squad the ability to follow the simple order "get that truck back on it's wheels and ready to go !", give those grappling hooks a new lease of life - let them right the wrongs of stupid half asleep drivers.

Re: Recovering tipped vehichles
There was a suggestion like this before. IIRC it is hardcoded to flip a vehicle without destroying it...

Re: Recovering tipped vehichles
Can't we just make it so that there's a few explosions of appropriate force that do no damage, but instead tumble it back onto the right side? Or an implosion, dunno.
Have an ARV/Supply Truck/SL deployable that would allow someone to enter a position, and be able to select a implosive/explosive round that would would hopefully untip it without destroying it in the process from terrain dmg.

how about an AD fly command?
Instead of vertical movement, a 60 degree twist that should get it on its feet again.
!flip or !fli

This doesn't always work, and when you're driving an LAV-3 or BMP, once you are on one pair of wheels/tracks, it's game over.

Trying to flip a vehicle back onto the right side up is like trying to put a negative on a negative and positive on positive on a magnet, if you try with another vehicle, otherwise, seems very hardcoded to me.

Well, I just imagine an offcenter force that would strike the bottom of the vehicle, off from the center of gravity, or something similar. I would put it in game as a semi-automatic "gun" with unlimited ammo, no reload time, but a range of about 20-30m. The person pulling the trigger could somehow figure out how to push it over with force.Spartan0189 wrote:Trying to flip a vehicle back onto the right side up is like trying to put a negative on a negative and positive on positive on a magnet, if you try with another vehicle, otherwise, seems very hardcoded to me.

cant we just reprogram all the PR vehicles to be like the canadian g-wagon? you cant flip that thing on its side or roof without it auto rebalancing back over.
or did i misunderstand the question?

I belive the fact that trucks flip pretty easy on rough terrain forces drivers to operate their vehicle more realistically, viz staying on solid roads which creates determined supply roads, which can be ambushed by the enemy team and therefor should be guarded by the own team. So giving those trucks extended off-road capabilities will take away some teamwork aspects in my opinion.Total_Overkill wrote:cant we just reprogram all the PR vehicles to be like the canadian g-wagon? you cant flip that thing on its side or roof without it auto rebalancing back over.

And to be honest, even if you drive those vehicles on maps where there are no solid roads (like yamalia) you wont flip them if you have some experience.

Re: Recovering tipped vehichles
Please give us a way to salvage our LAV on Operation Archer. The thing can conquer huge hills, only to be flipped by the tiniest lip on the way down the other side. I don't care how Godly a driver you say you are EVERYONE has flipped a LAV on Archer. You can literally go up the same hill you did 10x earlier and somehow flipped the vehicle.
I wonder if there is some way of having something like CPR hands on the topside of the vehicle only 10x stronger, so we can try to "push" ourselves back onto the wheels.
I know in reality if a vehicle is overturned/stuck they have special "tanks" and crews specifically for recovery, while this will never happen in PR due to the player limit it might be feasible to have a recovery vehicle in main so the overturned crew can try to rush back and save their vehicle, or call for the logistics team to come save them (if you're lucky enough to be teamed with a logi squad).

I find this unecessary and the ways I think it'd be implemented would feel unrealistic to me.

@murphy An APC weights tons, I guess. how come would you flip using bare hands? *shakes head*

Re: Recovering tipped vehichles
This reminds me of the time I was in a technical squad on korengal, and the driver decided he would try to drive sideways on a mountain . It rolled over at least 30 times before we hit a tree and exploded. I don't think I have heard so much laughter.
What I am trying to get at, is that you have to take care of the vehicles you have. Don't drive them over uneven/risky terrain, and you shouldn't really have a problem in the first place. It adds to the realism imo.

I can't think of a good solution for this, just drive slower and more carefully.

He's not saying that you'd be able to flip a vehicle with your bare hands. He's suggesting that a CPR-like effect could be added into the game to right tipped-over vehicles.Unarmed Civilian wrote:@murphy An APC weights tons, I guess. how come would you flip using bare hands? *shakes head*

Re: Recovering tipped vehichles
I think the only way to do this somewhat realistic would be creating a "Salvage Truck", similar to the logi truck and it's possibility to pick the role of a "Repair Crew". So basically, it would drop a kind of crane, similar to "drop repair station", and the crane should be player operated. The player would target and lock the flipped vehicle and then "fire at it". After some few minutes, let's say 2 or 3, the vehicle would be realocated on the same spot, but now unflipped.
Edit: By the way, I'm talking about a small crane, not those we find in game nowdays...
