Supply crate deploy duration

Post by splatters »

This is just something that I thought up while playing PR, rather minor but maybe someone has an opinion on this too.

When deploying supply crates from choppers and supply trucks the sound (of hydraulics I suppose) goes on after the crate has been deployed which happens immediately when you hit the button.
I say let's make it the other way around: it takes the same time for the crate to deploy as the sound's duration. Also crates should be deployed one at a time.

This would make it a tad harder for supply haulers to 'spam' the crates without stopping - I know I do it all the time  It's nothing fancy but I think it would bring a slight twist to gameplay and add to realism too.

I have no expertise in this but it doesn't seem too difficult to alter the code a little to make it so, although implementing it on every vehicle might be a bit of a chore. Maybe it's not worth the effort, you decide!

in real life the crate would be attached to the underbelly of the UH-1 with a cable and a release as soon as the release is pulled the crate would drop instantly so i do believe that the current system and speed that it drops is correct however the sound is not it.

Even then, It takes longer then it does now to deploy the crate.. I think it would be cool if dropping crates would take longer then instant... It will make it harder for Pilots, since they need to hover now.. And if dropped in a danger zone, more dangerous. So Pilots will have to be more care full!

This is something we had a go at for the .95 release but the way we where doing it the player had to hold the fire button down until the crate was dropped which was a few seconds and for anyone not upto date with the system it was quite confusing etc so we decided to remove it.

TBH everything is quite confusing if you are not up to date in this game ;)

the problem with that is on maps like muttrah the huey's would be shot down by HAT's and TOW's left and right if they had to wait 4 seconds to drop it i've seen the UH-1 Release cable as soon as the button is pulled the crate would be dropped
it would take about 1 second for the release to open and let the crate go

I second that. It's a shame not to implement something - even this minor - just because some people are not up to date in the game (especially if it's already made). It's the small things that really bring depth to the game.

to be even more brutally honest i would just hold the click down 3 seconds before my destination.... i still wouldn't stop. even if it was simple its not worth it. props to the good idea atleast.

The way I look at it, is that you have crates "ready" to be dropped. You click a button in order to tell them precisely there to "drop" it.
