So frustrating trying to put down a FOB
Can someone please explain why it is so hard laying down FOBs. I am sick of having to put them in the same places because that is the only place they will go. Can someone tell me if this is going to be fixed in the next patch and also what is causing this? I'm sick of seeing the same message over and over again telling me to try somewhere else.

Re: So frustrating trying to put down a FOB
The firebase itself can be a little tricky, but once you get her up you can get pretty creative with the assets and barricades.
Once I put up 2 HMG bunkers on the rooftop of the desert house in Basrah, full equiped with a huge perimeter around the house.
However it WOULD be verrrrrrry nice to have *alternate* versions of everything for and including the firebase. What I mean by that is not having any sandbags on it per say, just the radio and a table with a small map or laptop.
Or for the HMG, Just the HMG itself on a tripod. See what I mean? I think this could definitely help with setting these assets in unsual places for PR.
Exemple, At a window. On a roofie. Or for TOWs and AA missiles, a *stealth* mode where you actually need to see the weapon system itself and not the surrounding dirt or sandbags. Or hell, even deploy the HMG or TOW directly inside a foxhole
If thats even possible, lol.

Johny deploying an HMG or AA in a foxhole is possible with the current assets. I've seen it for the first time on UKWF. We where playing C&C and someone made one of those set-ups. Really cool. Very protected in the AA, I only couldnt get out lol

I like the idea itself . It would be so cool if we could put those hmgs inside buildings

Re: So frustrating trying to put down a FOB
When you pull out your radio and select the "Deploy -> Forward Outpost" option, an invisible object spawns in the air, 10m in front of the direction you are facing.
Now imagine that invisible object as a supply crate. According to the laws of physics, that supply crate is going to drop from the air and hit the ground. If you attempt to deploy a Forward Outpost on an angled surface, that object is going to slide down until it comes to rest on a relatively flat surface.
That is why you sometimes hear that scraping metal noise when you are trying to deploy the Forward Outpost; that is the Forward Outpost falling from the sky and bumping into any statics in its path. If there is something blocking its spawn or if the angle is too steep, you will get a message telling you to try placing it elsewhere.

lol thats pretty cool, I bet also that the only reason you couldnt get out was cuz the *exit hole* in the sandbags of the AA werent properly alligned with the ones of the foxhole. You should have taken a screenshot brocyberzomby wrote:Johny deploying an HMG or AA in a foxhole is possible with the current assets. I've seen it for the first time on UKWF. Yep, nice shots Iron Dreamer, and thanks for posting em.
So that means we could definitely get that no sandbag HMG, TOW and AA idea going
Perhaps even remove it completely forcing building into a little extra work for extra protection, if need be.
Would be nice for the new upcoming mortar as well!

I like the idea
no sandbags and sandbags by left or right clicking on the radio
also less digging with no sandbags but your more exposed to the enemy

Re: So frustrating trying to put down a FOB
the problem with no sandbags version is that if you dont have a mud pile under the asset, its going to lag/bug on steep surfaces, maybe even on flat surfaces (?). So you if you make a no-sandbags variation of these assets, you can make it:
1) without mud pile, so it can be udes vary effectively in buildings, or
2) with mud pile, so it would could be easily builded on steep surfaces.
AFAIK, the mod used to have deployables without mud support, but they wre removed because of the bugs/gliches they were making. Maybe im wrong, im not playing PR that long.

Re: So frustrating trying to put down a FOB
Silly, its not invisible, if you look closely you can see a white pixel drop from the sky. Keep an eye on this chap, if you watch its behaviour as it hits the ground, it will start to slide about looking for a place to put the FB. That and the length of time between pressing deploy and getting a message will give you clues about the suitability of your fire base location. For me trees seem to present the biggest bugbear when trying to place FB's, not sure, but it seems like the widest section of the FB's bib collides with the tree roots and you get an almost instantaneous error message. Oh, and avoid the white pixel at all costs! I once have one chase me about 20 meters into a corner before squishing me!Silly_Savage wrote:When you pull out your radio and select the "Deploy -> Forward Outpost" option, an invisible object spawns in the air, 10m in front of the direction you are facing.

From what I have read here so far people seem to suggest that you find a flat surface, but that isn't always the case. On that city map (carnt think of it's name) begins with an M ends in City, I have tried to put the Fob down on plenty of flat surfaces without success.

Re: So frustrating trying to put down a FOB
Yes, I know this. That is why I used the supply crate as an example. It's simply an object being spawned and falling into place. For all intents and purposes though, the object is invisible.Boris.T.Spider wrote:Silly, its not invisible, if you look closely you can see a white pixel drop from the sky. 10m for a Forward Outpost, 5m for emplacements.
