Post by Predator.v2 »

Well this is about "Thermal Imaging" in 0.95.

Quotes:
Put it this way, any vehicle/weapon that has thermals in r/l will have it ingame. There might be one or two exceptions but if there are, I dont know about them.
You will be able to see through smoke now? So popping smoke with a tank when you fall back isn't effective anymore I guess...

Pretty much. Smoke is completely invisible on thermals.

Nope it wont work anymore, but what will now work, is, when you are in open ground, lets said on a ins. map, then you pop smoke to hide you're self and use thermal to engage enemy.
Also the t-90 (could be other tanks too, im no expert) has IR blinding, 3:29 in the video. Will that be implemented too? (First guess is a no)

Not in this release, no. We were aware of it though
as for attack helicopters, its definatly going to increase their effective range. i never saw the vehicals on SE before they kicked on the thermal

You would be surprised by how much. We did a test run on SE with Jaymz, he hid bunch of vehs around map in different places then flew around not telling me where they are. I found everything from 1st fly by's

Believe me, it's going to have an enormous impact. Vehicular lethality will be increased ten fold in many situations.
Well they (insurgents) are getting the SPG-9 which should destroy tanks in a few shots. The Taliban are also getting G3's for the officer's primary weapon, IDK if other kits are going to get it though.

We are not at OMG. That will occur when the full feature list is posted. When that happens, it won't simply be cries and moans...oh no....the forums will be like the video log from the Event Horizon.

Awesome job devs!

I think it will also feature on the UAV, IIRC Reapers/Predators have a thermal imaging suite.

Will be good for the Kiowa, hopefully it will be able to hover above cloud cover on Kashan etc. and lase for the Apache using the mast mounted sight. Going to some very interesting combined arms teamwork going on.

I assume on a lighter map other than SEagle the vehicles/infantry would be much brighter?

Shouldn't it be the opposite? Those tanks looks very dark when compared to the thermals on tanks/choppers.

Also are thermals on the Stryker/MT-LB's too? I also heard that T-72's don't have thermal sights, could this cause balance issues?

No, although the Kiowa is set up for it and the Z-9/Panther series when it comes in and something we are going to look into in the future :)

dtacs, it's a range thing, it fades a little, but it's not bad, you can easily distinguish them.

Only vehicles that have thermals irl, will have thermals in-game. We might post the list later.

I'm not Mos', but I think the whole thermal imaging thing required a buttload of workarounds and it does the job. This is still a game and we're still on the BF2 engine, not the "r/l engine" you know.

Also it doesn't really matter, you can still see perfectly OK with regular vision (like you could before...), the TIS is just a treat that helps out under certain conditions IMO.

Thanks for the answers gentlemen, another question, will the Abrams' CITV (drivers camera) also get TIS, and the T-90's/Leo's for that matter?

I didn't know if they had them or not, there are alot of things in PR where it doesn't have 'it' IRL and vice versa, so to us it isn't obvious.

Well we're on a roll here, does the MT-LBM carry infantry or does the BTR-80A cannon take up all the space?

SE is very harsh in terms of lighting/fog settings. Here's Chuc on Barracuda through the AAVP-7A1 gunner's sight.....

EDIT: Censored actually, shows other features that aren't disclosed yet.

Like db was saying, any vehicle position fitted with thermals as standard irl will have them in-game. MEC are fictional and T-72's can be fitted with after-market thermals.
