Kiowa question

Post by Jafar Ironclad »

Hey all; I'm both curious, tremendously excited, wanting to practice, and cannot discern the answer from trailers or blogs; what are the planned loadouts for the Kiowa Warrior?

14 or 7 hydras and a machinegun , but I wanted to ask is the Kiowa's FLIR range increased so it can do it's spotting role?

Sadly, due to PR's nature I don't think its going to be used realistically. (Maps being so small and VDs being relatively small causing it to just bbe used for CAS and not spotting.) That thing is going to be vulnerable on maps like Kashan due to flanking maneuvers. If it were to feature on a map like Muttrah(I know it won't) it could use those mountains to it's advantage and pop its camera over without having to worry about say an enemy IFV or AFV going around back and killing it.

Standard Loadout

1 x Hydra Pod (7 x Rockets)
1 x M3 50cal Pod (463 Rounds)

Alternate Loadout

2 x Hydra Pod (14 x Rockets)

Co-Pilot can operate the MMS which has 360 degree view and day/thermal capabilities.

What is the angle on the MMS, as in how low will it have to hover to get an effective lase on a target?

No matter what the rest said, if i can fly that baby with a copilot in a AH64D squad, enemy will have hard time getting anywhere... :D That will just crush the thing :D

Even if i honestly fear that the OH-58D will became a AH-58D... but i'm confident that PR Community will use it properly :-D

Well, its not like it shouldn't be used as a attack chopper, while its main role is observation, it has been pushed into front line attack roles, specifically in insurgencies. What I'd like to do on this "Kokan" map is actually stop a insurgent bike by firing .50 in its path and hovering above it, like a Kiowa did in a video I once saw.
To add on to what Jaymz said, the Kiowa is very very flexible. On its two pylons it can carry a combination of:
-7 round LAU-61 70mm Hydra launchers
-M296 .50 (basically a M2 that's air-cooled, aircraft operated, and fires faster)
-2 AGM-114s
-2 AIM-92 ATAS
and I believe there were tests to mount the GAU-19, a 3-barrel gatling operating .50.

Yes the Kiowa was primarly a Recon helicopter. The big ball you see on top of the main rotor was designed to look over a ridge without being detected.

Thats one of the bluefor additions that I praise very much, its gonna give a very realistic feel to all maps as it is widely used. Especially in Iraq back then. (man already? were getting old!)

Yeah but for every load out, you need to remodel the entire thing... wich take alot of time and also add alot of weight to an already realy heavy mod.

Nope, they would need one model of the helicopter, and on of every guns, then they could use child objects and attach the weapons via the game engine or something like that. At least that's how I've understood it
