Actually on some maps its going to have a HUGE impact. No more hiding in those pesky bushes. Man the devs have made me a giddy little crewman.Murphy wrote:...even if it doesn't have the biggest impact.

Re: PR 0.95 - Thermal Imaging
its definatly going to make armored combat more... interestering. i dont know about armor v armor, but its going to make infantry deployed anti-tank weapons less effective.
2:15-3:07
now if your infantry and you spot a tank who pops smoke, run for cover.
as for attack helicopters, its definatly going to increase their effective range. i never saw the vehicals on SE before they kicked on the thermal

Re: PR 0.95 - Thermal Imaging
You would be surprised by how much. We did a test run on SE with Jaymz, he hid bunch of vehs around map in different places then flew around not telling me where they are. I found everything from 1st fly by'sWh33lman wrote:as for attack helicopters, its definatly going to increase their effective range. i never saw the vehicals on SE before they kicked on the thermal

Believe me, it's going to have an enormous impact. Vehicular lethality will be increased ten fold in many situations.Murphy wrote:You managed to surprise me with this feature, I remember reading a few suggestions concerning thermals and they seemed to be shot down. I guess I see why now.
Coolest feature, even if it doesn't have the biggest impact.
Wait for the full feature list. Insurgents and Taliban have multiple additions.JohnnyTheIED wrote:And insurgents still dont get EFPs![]()

^As it should be since smoke doesn't give off a heat signature unless of course its smoke which is part of a fire. Very cool addition with thermals.

Emm, I always thought that tanks and other armour dont just pop smoke, they pop a susbstance which is capable of reflecting laser and, possibly, other spectrums... 2:41 in the video
Also the t-90 (could be other tanks too, im no expert) has IR blinding, 3:29 in the video. Will that be implemented too? (First guess is a no)
Or am I completely in the wrong here?

That would.... be a stretch. That's like saying we should remove the M1A2 of any damage from ATGMs or anti-tank weapons just because it has ERA.Gotrol wrote:Emm, I always thought that tanks and other armour dont just pop smoke, they pop a susbstance which is capable of reflecting laser and, possibly, other spectrums... 2:41 in the video

The Dev's, I'm sure, could find the balance for all that juicy modern tech given appropriate game engine to work with.

Not in this release, no. We were aware of it thoughGotrol wrote: Also the t-90 (could be other tanks too, im no expert) has IR blinding, 3:29 in the video. Will that be implemented too? (First guess is a no)
Well he's right that there's IR countermeasures that block certain spectra.Drunkenup wrote:That would.... be a stretch. That's like saying we should remove the M1A2 of any damage from ATGMs or anti-tank weapons just because it has ERA.
T-90's (as well as loads of Russian tanks for decades now) also have ERA. ERA is not, by any means, full protection against ATGM's.

Re: PR 0.95 - Thermal Imaging
IIRC Infrared blocking smoke has been around for a while and is used by the American and Canadian military, if not others. Sorry I don't have the time to research it and provide sources right now, but I believe many of the forces conducting front-line invasion type operations against a roughly symmetrical force in PR would be packing IR blocking smoke into their vehicles' launchers prior to the engagement.
