Kiowa Helicopter Discussion/Usage

Post by stealth420 »

This thread is for all the helicopter pilots that are itching to get into the kiowa helicopter.

I expect this chopper to be faster than the Littlebirds and the Chinese WZ-11 , it looks light enough to exceed the speeds of these 2 choppers.

1. What role would you put the kiowa in on the battlefield ?

2. What maps will the chopper be used on? ( Question for Devs )

3. What type of stratedgy will use with this helo, down low or up high atacks ?

4. Can it out run technicals ??? ( because techs can go as fast as the Littlebird in current version)

Operation Iraqi Freedom Kiowa Helo

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KtviAyIEFvw?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KtviAyIEFvw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Also , a Kiowa on fallujah west would be awsome, the insurgents only get 1 technical so it would be balanced with One AA kit.

What role? Unfortunately enough it will be utilized in the same capacity as the current LB, as a little aircraft designed to take out its equivalent on the other team.
What maps will the chopper be used on?
Kokan, Karbala, Ramiel and Kashan IIRC.
What type of stratedgy will use with this helo, down low or up high atacks ?
Considering it has the MMS which has the ability to lase targets (to work in tandem with Apaches) it could be used as a recon helicopter however to do this it has to go below the view distance and remain still, making it prime bait for anything that can shoot a still target.

In addition to this, the UAV is a much safer and quieter alternative so that will change the way forward air controlling works.

Its my hope that the WZ-11 and Gazelle (MEC) both feature chin mounted 360 degree cameras to put them on the same page as the Kiowa, so they can be utilized in the same manner.

An interesting thought occurs. The WZ11 and Gazelle are both tremendously overpowered in the engine department, as in, they go very, very fast in a straight line. This makes them nigh impossible to use as a spotting platform because the target is there and gone before you can get a look at it.

I'm wondering if the Kiowa will be the same.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

With the introduction of thermal imaging, some people may attempt to use the Kiowa for high flying observation, more realistically however, I think most people will end up using it as a light attack helicopter.

As far as maps go, I'd assume the Kiowa will replace the LB on most maps. The LB doesn't really represent its real role in-game, so I don't think we'll be seeing it so much after the next update. I think it would be cool to see the Kiowa on Operation Archer, though it may do more harm then good.

Anyway, I'm definitely excited to see how it turns out!

Proves 2 things:

1:Kiowas are quite effective attack helos and it show's the proper way to conduct gun and rocket runs.

2 :P ilots have M4s.

I'll use it to attack and do recon on targets. Attacking targets will vary, light ones, such as motorcycles and civilian cars are an easy thing, but hide outs and techincals are going to need coordinated strategies because it's pretty hard to work with just a .50 cal and 7 Hydra rounds. I'd expect it to handle and fly faster than the outgoing Littlebird, and offer far more functionality (recon with the MMS).

The Kiowa Warrior is completely replacing the AH-6 Little Bird. Little Birds are almost exclusively operated by 160th SOAR which is not the type of unit we portray in PR.

The bradleys were on fallujah, and theyre army too.
Fallujah has been a marine op with army support since it has gotten into pr so a kiowa could always remain an option.

Choppers on 1km maps is a big no. The AAV is going to be enough, in fact it'll be more useful than the bradley.

The MMS alone is a very small target and unlikely to be seen. If the pilot is skilled enough he can well manage to expose that part of the helicopter only when hovering behind a ridge.
Due to the improved visual conditions in such a low altitude, the aircraft's observational abilities are improved as opposed to flying in higher altitudes.

Currently this is not possible because any ground vehicle will easily see and destroy you but maybe this will change with the introduction of the Kiowa and its MMS.

Personally...

On AAS maps..
1)Use it in coordination with Apache's and jets, putting down the lase or providing a "distraction"
2)Stay in communication with the commander or over SL mumble, and pinpoint enemy infantry, vehicles, firebases, supplylines, etc
3)Provide light CAS

On insurgency maps...
1)Have someone on the thermalz looking for possible cache area's
2)Spot ambushes
3)CAS
4)Chase down Gary's and Big Red's

5)Hope your up against guys like in the top left

On the Insurgency maps talking tactics is a bit academic, it tends to be used as a flying tank.
