So... I heard you like bayonets?

Post by LithiumFox »

Everyone else is complaining about stuff I personally can see why you did, but the bayonets thing confuses me, and actually sounds like "Oh... eh... eff it."

(which is me at work 90% of the time, so... I understand that as well)

But by too many variants did you mean too many variants of bayonets or too many variants of US Soldier kits?

Honestly, everything else in the changelog I personally love. (even the new 3D icons rule and enemy kit rule. Come on guys stop thinking about yourself. OH i wont be able to leet insurgent sniporz oh noessss)

Just confused about the bayonets thing.

Yea, this is very important and deserves it's own thread.

I didn't really understand this as well but from the response I got there were too many US bayonets(2 in fact) and it was too much work to animate them (2) all, funny thing is they were already animated :p

this is some sort of CIA false flag operation, with onlogic reasoning they're trying to implant false ideas to test our faith and slowly phase out things they've never liked :p

*hates how text makes you wonder if a reply is sarcastic or not*

=/ Honestly, that was the topic of the night last night on TS and Xfire.

Everyone was like "WTF BOOM" about it. I figured you guys had a reason, but everyone else was just pissed about it.

I just wanted to know what you meant about that, and then maybe this thread would help other people wondering the same thing.

You'd be surprised how important the bayonets thing is. ;) Even the enemy kits thing didn't nearly get talked about as much as bayonets.

XD You'd honestly be surprised....

There is too many variants - (just use M16 for example) M16 with M203, M16 M203 with scope, M16 M203 with aimpoint or EOTech, M16, M16 scope, M16 aimpoint/EOTech, M16 vertical foregrip, M16 v-foregrip scope, M16 v-foregrip aimpoint/EOTech.... the list is looooong

How does the number of variants make it almost impossible to have bajonets on? - each variant needs its own bajonet variant aswell.. or else it would be like using ur scoped M16 M203 and then strip it to irons and rails and put on the bajonet.. its just way easier to go with knives

EDIT: am i right, devs?

Thank you CCCode. Sorry, the people on our TS and on Xfire were giving me the impression that it was too many variants of kits, rather than too many real life variants.

Honestly, if i could get this title of this thread changed to "Removal of Bayonets, Explained?" or something that others could search for and read to understand, that would probably be for the best.

I just honestly wanted to know, and this thread I think will help others understand.

It takes a lot of work to keep up with that many variants. =/ Lots and lots and lots of work.

Tho I'm deeply saddened that a dev could've answered and instead gave a "Oh just another person complaining" answer, rather than CCCode who at least gave me a possible explanation. I really didn't know that there were that many real life variants. But I guess the devs do have a lot of complaints to listen too. Im sorry I pay attention to the "little" things that are "unimportant", dbzao.

I'm going to make a couple assumptions -- that you're not living in a cave devoid of objects, you know someone who doesn't hate you and you're not a Jehovah's Witness.
If these assumptions are mostly correct, you have most likely been given a gift before in your life.

Every release of PR is like a gift wrapped in a transparent box. You receive it early, but you cannot open it until your birthday/Christmas or the night before (Heathen!) What you can do is shake the box, look at it, even watch the instructional video and manuals.

I think Uncle DB gets a little grumpy though, when he's gone through so much trouble to craft a wonderful handmade gift for you (A gift that took thousands of hours of collaboration between all of your loving uncles, not one that was purchased at WalMart) and there are complaints before you even open the box.

I hope that brings some perspective to that matter.

You know I love this mod and I have (barely) complained about anything. I'm one of the few people actually defending 99% of the changelog saying "They're just testing it out. Who knows maybe it'll be epic."

I just wanted an answer because the changelog was pretty vague about what variants meant. A lot of people thought it was because you had 100 us army kits, but now i realize it's just that there's a lot of IRL variants that I didn't know about.

=( I said i understood why he was cranky/angry/upset, but i stated how i felt and said please don't take your anger out at me.

=/ Obviously I'm typing ambiguously and not getting my point across.

Honestly, all i wanted was the ability to understand what the changelog meant by "variants", and was upset to see that my question was taken as complaining. It's like my parents. "You added peppers to this meal?" "What do you have a problem with peppers?" "No, actually i found that pretty neat... just... confused me for a second"

(Actual conversation i had with my mom.)

Bayonets are not that practical in a PR gameplay, tell me, how many times have you actually killed an enemy with a bayonet? I for one, never.... and for some reason I do not belive that you would ussualy try to clear a room with bayonets.
You get a knife and it does the same deal.

iAllex- Not the point of what im asking. I strictly asked what it meant on the changelog.

Let me make it easier for everybody to understand what i am asking here-

WHAT I AM ASKING:
"What did you mean by variants, kits or just too many versions in real life?"

(Important because then i have an argument when i spend 90% of the next 5 days defending the devs and trying to make people shut up about it on teamspeak)
WHAT IS NOT BEING ASKED:
Wai did you get rid of teh 1337 bayonets. Now i can't stabs them and it makes me sad waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

it was like this:

2 different knifes (US army + USMC)

and than they get mounted on 2 different weapons (M16 + M4)

and than we get a few different optics for nearly each rifle (iron sights, ACOG, Aimpoint, Eotech)

so thats like 10 different weapons in total (which all need maintenance; updating meshes, animations, deploy sounds, code etc)

Well hopefully next patch the bayonets can be re-added. Because frankly every faction now has bayonets except the US factions.

i never understood bayonets in the first place. for the British, it was a little odd that they were useing a weapon named "Bayonet" as a knife, but i didnt care. when it was animated as an actual bayonet, the animation was cool, but i still didnt care that it was a bayonet.

the SKS bayonet made sense. why give a guy a knife when he has a perfectly usable one on the end of his rifle.

when bayonets for all factions were discussed in the suggestion fourm, i figured it would be shot down. same with the slash/stab knife sugestion. i was amazed to find them both in the next build. i can belive the Devs bowed to the community like that.

i guess my point is, why does everyone care? i think bayonets are the most retarded thing ever. yeah you cant do 1337 bayonet charges, but when is the last time a modern military did a bayonet charge? this is not the trenches of WWI people.
