Game won't start (Splashscreen, then back to desktop) (VISTA32) PR0.95

Post by stray cat »

When starting, a splash screen appears for some time, then closes. The game does not load. Bf2 normal does instantly load however.

VISTA32
AMD5500+ DUAL 2GB RAM
GF9800 1GB
Do not even ask about wether I got the latest drivers or wether the installation went correctly, I installed it all following the instructions.

Clean BF2, 1.41, 1.50, then the 3 installer files. Also tried running in administrator modes etc.
The complete VISTA was reinstalled a few months before that. And I used to play PR on earlier versions on exact the same hardware and Windows before that.

Are you sure you've put both pr.exe and bf2.exe in XP SP3 compatibility mode? (rightclick the .exe, properties, compatibility)

Guess i got something close to that. When i click on shortcut PR logo appears...u know - that small window in the middle of screen. Then it doesn't go anywhere, after a short while just disappears like nothing happened...

And i have Windows XP

I can walk you throught if you do have the same error as me.

First, open your PR shortcut and write this after the target line +fullscreen 0

Now try opening PR, if you get 'debug assertion failed' bug then follow these instructions:
Moldylunchbox wrote:I think I had your same problem, go to your battlefield 2 folder in your documents
(C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default)

Check to see if there is a Video.con file, if not open notepad and paste this in:

VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@85Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 2

then save as Video.con

let me know if this works.
This worked for me. Do try it, and report back here.

As for the CTD and memory DLL, that is because BF2 is trying to use more RAM than the maximum allowed amount. Temporary fix is to turn all your settings to Medium.

I wrote it for OP.

You can try it if you want, all that code does is change your video settings. It really did work for me.

Yes i got the video.con method to work

It said

"VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@85Hz"

And my Screen doesnt support 85ghz so i just changed it to 60 and it worked!!

Good. I'm happy it turned out okay.

Kind of funny that it's almost unsolvable, and yet fixed by easy changing of a .con file :o

I have YOUR FIX, what you must do is first log into your vanilla battlefield 2 then exit and run project reality for some reason you must do this before you begin to play pr. do it once and not again.

hope this helps
