Re: crash to desktop
Hey camrad,
random crashes to desktop ("CTDs") are a known issue with PR 0.95!
Many people here have this problem. Keep looking here until a workaround or solution was found...

Re: crash to desktop
Change your textures to medium and see if that helps.

Re: crash to desktop
Sometimes it can be a bad OC issue. Some times it's a driver issue. Sometimes it's a cache issue.
I was getting CTD after installing .91. I came to this board and found out about Battlefield Cleaner v2.1. Used that and my CTD went away.. While thinking how to write up this post, I remembered tweakguides.com BF2 Troubleshooting Tips
Then go back to your - Documents\Battlefield 2\profiles - folder and delete the profiles folder
Or just run the BF2 Cleaner v2.1
If that don't work. Try a full removal of VGA, sound and NIC device drives, first in your OS. Then use DriveSweeper in safe mode. Last, use CCleaner in safe mode or desktop to clean what's left. Re-install all up to date drivers and may be it will work.
Hope this helps!

Windows 7 - Libraries\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\ - Delete the "bf2" folderClearing Shader Optimizations: When you change the graphical settings or install a new patch, BF2 attempts to optimize the shaders used in the game for the best performance on your particular hardware. These optimized files are stored in your \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ directory in XP or \[username]\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ in Vista. If you've changed your settings several times, I recommend you finalize your changes, close BF2, go to the above directory and delete everything under the \cache\ directory. The next time you start the game and play single or multiplayer, your shaders will be optimized again. Close BF2 one more time, defragment your hard drive, and now things should be much smoother and load much faster the next time you go to play BF2.
Update: It is strongly recommended that you clear your cache after installing the latest patch.
