Agree some of my fav maps are 2km. TBH bigger isn't better, it all comes down to map design and asset placement. I would like to see the developers re-think asset placement for the upcoming patch, because modern warfare's core is inf.

01 Player = Commander
02 Players = Sniper
04 Players = CAS
04 players = 2 Tanks
04 Players = 2 APCs
02 Players = 1 AAV
03 Players = 1 Mortar Team
02 Players = 2 Transport/Logi
10 Players = Infantry
32 = Team Size
This leaves about two 5-man infantry squads.
Subtract a squad for FB defenses.

My take on this. Does this topic deserve a thread of its own?

Kashan is a map that should stay with asset's cause the whole map is about assets, but many other maps should have less assets.

Not PR fault, i wish we could have 100+ player servers
Assets are fine as they are, they just need to be severely limited.

Which kinda makes your post kinda...ironic?

An abundance of assets on maps technically qualifies as a "Asset issue"

Going to be honest, on a map like Kashan, no more then a full squad should be running any sort of IFV. There simply is no need to bring any more fire to bear within the minute timespan. One tank is enough to kill an IFV, one IFV is enough to kill a tank. With a platoon of tanks, the problem is keeping your armor from doing stupid stuff that you would otherwise be able to handle via micromanagement of drivers.

6 people in Armor, 1 Cmmdr, 4 in CAS, 1-2 in Trans, 1-2 in Logistics/Vehicle Retrieval, leaves 3 full squads of infantry.

Armor is far more versatile then a sniper or something would ever be, and can supplant snipers, with a combination of a rifleman dismount and some good ol' tactics.

I have to agree, it would be nice if players kept in mind that you really dont need 6 people in a mortar squad, especially if your going to have 2 mortar squads. That really consumes players that could be in INF squads.

Maps are generally too asset heavy at the moment. On a map like Kashan, a team basically has more assets than it can realistically use in such a small area. Kashan Desert feels more like I imagine the Battle of 73 Easting to me with hueg numbers of tanks popping each other and a distinct absence of line infantry.

So yes, there are a few problems with asset:infantry numbers at the moment.

Not noticed lack of inf.

My 3 most fun rounds since patch - all infantry.

2 of them I was the SL.

Interesting, most people so far have said they'd like less assets. I'm not sure anyone would agree they want less support though. Can't have your cake and eat it too guys. The balance is fine right now. Mortar squads will tweak themselves out over time, once people start getting bored of standing around doing nothing. Sure it's exciting to hear them fire now, but they're pretty mundane in the scheme of things. The crews don't get to watch anything explode, and after people stop routinely calling targets, mortars will be less and less frequent.

I saw the same pattern right after SOFLAMs were issues and CAS could hit targets with pinpoint accuracy. It was cool and glamorous to call targets, but now it's a rare deal to find an SL who can be assed to do it.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

i have also noticed the seemingly nonexistant inf squads. Heres what i see on a server of mutrahh for example:

TRANS
CAS
COBRA
APC
(SOME LOCKED CLAN SQUAD)
FOBS
MORTAR 1
MORTAR 2

Is there a way to add the total numbers of players to the BF2 version on 0.95? If there are more ppl and fewer armour, etc, there will be more inf squads. Maybe also increase the number squads allowable?

I'm afraid that doing this is impossible since if we go over 64 players in a server it crashes, also we can't change the Squad values, this is called hardcodded and its because the people who made BF2 don't wnat us to change that.

I runned on my server Muttrah Infantary (aas 16) it was AWESOME

Now that the deviation is fixed, Infantary layers are awesome, too many firefights and you dont get raped by apc's in the middle of the fight

Muttrah Inf with the current PR version is AWESOME, i sugest that more servers run it
