Training Server

Post by andrewthecool »

Me and my Friend Jawkick where talking, and we were thinking about the influx of PR players that usualy Come with the new Version. What about Having a Server Dedicated to Assisting the Players Build Their Knowledge on PR with 1on1 Sessions with Trainers...
it would probably Work Well, as Learning 1on1 with another Person is better than Reading thru the manual.

Ideas? Thoughts? Rages?

Co-op works well if you wanna familiarize yourself with all the vehicles, kits and assets.

Reading the manual is very important and a lot of people think otherwise, I was one of them. I downloaded PR probably around .5 didn't read the manual played for 10 minutes on a training server and uninstalled. I came back later on to give it another shot sometime shortly before .87, I read the manual and it made it so much easier to play the game. It is a lot of reading but it is necessary and worth it.

Learning first hand begins with the manual, next step is co-op servers.

Plus if there was not a manual and everyone learned first hand, veterans would be saying "since when did we have a UAV?" It has a lot of good information in it.

I'm all for a deployment server to help new players learn the game better from some dedicated "vets". I wouldn't mind helping out myself, I already lead "LEARN PR" squads sometimes, whenever I have a lot of patience and feel like helping out.

I used to like the training servers to practice on. What ever happened to the desert ones that you could fly on? They would also help with finding the mortar range that has been added now.

Training mode was removed as it tended to bring out the worst in PR, ie. training servers were used less for actual training and more for griefing. These have been replaced by CO-OP mode with the intention of allowing players to practice against "live targets" in the form of bots, although there are a few CO-OP servers that prefer to just play instead of train.

If you need practice flying i'd suggest creating a local server.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

Problem with "training" on a local is you still have the same restrictions as online I.E long spawn times for you and assets plus spawn time for you gets longer and longer the more you crash or whatever. Also its not possable to practice say tank gunning by yourself either even with bot drivers.
Have you tried to practice flying a a10 on a local?

At least with the training mode you could use that in a local and effictivly train how not to crash lol.maybe have traing mode as offline only?
If we could edit spawntimes etc like in vanilla bf2 it would be ok tho.

For practicing jets I usually go into deployment/create local, then to quinling on CnC. It has both the eurofighter and the tornado to practice with, as well as the apache and access to a couple of dummy targets in the form of the chinese jeeps and log trucks. I also like to go onto the ch side, park a tank in a random location in the map, then try to find and destroy the tank.

Yes I will miss training mode, and no coop is not a viable substitute, but local deployment with a bit of patience is just fine for me.

Well you can go to your C: programfiles/EAGAMES/BF2/mods/PR/Python/local.py and mess around in there. It is pretty self-explanatory what to change to remove the long re-spawn penalty's etc. Not sure if you will end up with a pb kick though. Always backup first.

If you want to train on something specific just create a copy of the map with a backup, then change the re-spawn times.

How to add more planes ect - BF2S Forums
