Wierd stuttering (pretty sure it's some form of lag.) Problem.
Alright, I seem to have this wierd stuttering problem in PR ver. 0.95 where It will play fine for about 30 seconds and then do a wierd stutter for about 7 seconds. I think it might be some sort of lag problem because it's more prevaliant in more densley populated servers (49-64 players). I can join a game of about 21 or so players and it wont be so bad; but, it gets real boring, real quickly. However, no matter how many players there are, it gets pretty bad whenever I actually get into a fight. Punkbuster has also every once in a while been giving me the "PnkbsterB heartbeats stopped" error after being kicked. Another little quirk about it is it stalls(with the sounds still going) after I respawn or right as I join a game. So I did a little testing by firing up Vanilla BF2 and guess what? No wierd lag and it played smooth! (On a server of about 55 people with the usual grenades going off everywhere.) I'm also wondering if I might have gotten a bad copy of PR? (I downloaded it off of FilePlanet.) I really would like some help with this because this is a very good mod where people actually give a damn about teamwork. (and the realism.)
Need more ammo and mags...

Another 2GB ram wouldn't hurt...how much memory are you using when it stutters?B2k43 wrote:Alright, I seem to have this wierd stuttering problem in PR ver. 0.95 where It will play fine for about 30 seconds and then do a wierd stutter for about 7 seconds. Re: Wierd stuttering (pretty sure it's some form of lag.) Problem.
Ya, I think that is the problem. A little thing that happened to me back on my old AMD dual core rig with a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (2 GB of RAM) was that it would stutter like HELL whenever I turned the textures to high. (Even though everything else is at high.) So on my newer Windows 7 rig, (Intel Core 2 Quad with 2GB of RAM and an Nvidia 9600 GT KO) I put it up to maximum screen resolution (1440x900) with everything on high (view distance all the way, etc.) but noticed this time it would let me turn on anti-alaising. So this is when all this stuutering took place in PR and then tried it in Vanilla BF2 with Vanilla BF2 having no problems. However, ever since going to evenbalance.com and manually updating it; along with turning anti-alaising off (but keeping everything else high) I think I've prety much solved it. I'm not sure if I've gotten into any firefights yet but a tank shot at my squad (landing near us but not damaging us; kind of a "oh ****" moment. lol) It didnt stutter at all. I think I just need to replace my 2 GB of factory RAM and put in about 4GB of Corsair performance RAM.Noobinator wrote:Another 2GB ram wouldn't hurt...how much memory are you using when it stutters?

I am in favor of RAM upgrades but maybe simply defragging might help. Extensive stuttering can be cause by hard faults - which are even worse if the HDD is fragmented.
