Microphone keeps cutting out :(

Hey Guys, I have a problem in PR where after about 35/40 minutes of playing the game, my Mic decides that is just doesn't want to work anymore. Sometimes it cuts out a bit quicker, say like 20 mins or so but I normally get a good 35/40 minutes before it cuts out. I can still hear everything else fine - just my mic stops working.

Any idea's anyone? Full PC spec is in my profile.

If it makes any difference I run PR with Extra High Audio quality. Changing the quality makes no difference to my problem at all

How do you know that your mic cuts out? What are the symptoms that make you think it does? (no speaker icon in lower right corner or ppl saying that they cannot hear you?)

Have you tried running audio settings with "Hardware" instead of "XFI"??

Did you check if something wierd happend in windows audio/volume control?

The symptoms are exactly as you have said: The little yellow icon doesn't appear and no-one can hear me.

Thanks for your advice. To be honest I bought an X-fi so that I could experience the game with the 'best possible' audio, so I haven't tried it with just "Hardware". I will give that a try though.

I think that has resolved the problem although I haven't had a chance to play for an extended period since. I have also found out that if you set the affinity for bf2.exe to just one core, performance is GREATLY improved. Even if you have 4 cores (or more) I have a tri-core processor and running PR with only Core 0 I get 90odd fps whereas before I was getting 20 if I was lucky!!!

XFi cards are known to cause trouble. I suggest you look around in the forums. There are quite a few threads on it and alot of ppl are not happy with setting to "Hardware". Maybe there is a better solution for your problem.

BF2 was never designed for multi core use - it is simply not optimized for it. However some hardware technologies like HyperThreading on i3+ processors can help with that.

Seems to be fine now, and to be honest, there isn't a great deal of difference in the audio quality with it set to hardware. So I am reasonably happy to use that
