Why is Muttrah so popular?
I see Muttrah is still highly popular and rotated in the servers with this patch. What's so special with this map. Personally I don't like MEC and find everything about them boring, from how they look, move and their arms.
Besides maps like Muttrah and other MEC maps don't lead me to creative thinking, it's just advance and secure a map, without any plan.
Take Qwai River for example, now there is action going on. But why no Qwai River anymore, but all this Muttrah and MEC.

Yeah the main thing with Muttrah is that it is a very enjoyable urban fight, and there aren't too many maps that do that consistently. It also lends itself to people who like vehicles with plenty of APCs, lots of choppers for pilots and the aforementioned infantry combat.

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

Combined arms. Lots of close combat. Decent performance. Just a good map.

A realistic amphibious assault scenario and a high detailed urban area adds to the atmospher.
And ofc there is the hunt for the Platypus

Re: Why is Muttrah so popular?
It has lots of helicopters for aspiring pilots, lots of apc for people who want to use those, lots of apcs also lead to lots of people who want to blow shit up, and it has great close quarters urban fights, just a really well rounded map overall, it'll probably always be played in some variation.

1st
As most of the people have said, the urban environment makes it all realistic, and after I found out that Muttrah is a real city, and it looked really like the map on PR, I liked it even better.
2nd
Muttrah has a lot of vehicles, and the map itself is made a way that makes us able to do pretty much everything except from flying jets.
You can form great infantry squads.
You can snipe in the mountains or on top of buildings.
You can place TOWs and AAs which are used a lot, and not just placed for the lols.
You can use APCs, and actually get bunch of kills with it.
You can transport with helicopter
You can give close air support with a Huey and a Cobra.
Great map.

I hate Muttrah and all other urban maps with a passion! It brings my 5yo computer to its knees!

I have to admit eventhough I don't hate the map I feel kind of "Not again :/" every time I see the loading screen, but that's because it was way to often in the maplists in the past.
It's a great map, but it became boring due to massive overuse.

Re: Why is Muttrah so popular?
There are many reasons why Muttrah is such a popular map, most have already been stated but the main reason, put in its simplest possible way is that the map offers lots of different elements of gameplay with all the different vehicles give something for pretty much everybody to enjoy, and the fact that its an asymmetrical yet balanced map helps even more

I'm very surprised that the map is still this popular with how much its been over played tbh. I know I've done minor gameplay tweaks along the way but I've not done anything drastic to change the map at any point as I dont want to loose its core gameplay that works so well, although for Muttrah 2.5 I may do some big changes but you will have to wait and see what they are, if I ever get round to doing Muttrah 2.5
I think that is a gorse simplification. Just because a map dosen't have "random flag set up" dosen't mean there is no curative thinking for the players. There are so many different ways you can attack and defend flags and lots of different situations that come up which require you to attack/defend differently from the last time you played. It is unlikely that you will two rounds that play excatly the same way as there are so many things that can happen.nicoliani wrote:Besides maps like Muttrah and other MEC maps don't lead me to creative thinking, it's just advance and secure a map, without any plan.

Ye, this is a problem with any popular map thou, everyone likes the map so much that servers put it up there to populate the servers.Nagard wrote:I have to admit eventhough I don't hate the map I feel kind of "Not again :/" every time I see the loading screen, but that's because it was way to often in the maplists in the past.

You can basically do anything the game offers, in a well detailed map, with open and closed areas and asymmetrical balance which makes it more interesting. Like the old Qwai which was also perfect.

Its pick up and go and has a decent balance of air assets armor and infantery, so everybody is happy with that map while on some maps the asset huggers suffer while on other maps gruntsforlife are bored.
But yes happy PR players are those who can enjoy other roles as well.

May be overplayed but I still love playing it. Dont join the 24/7 muttrah because thats just simply too much but still like to play, games turn out differently all the time.
