Re: Why do you hate mumble?
Mumble is a great program that only adds to the atmosphere of PR and I use it when I notice others are using it as well. The problem the program suffers from is that it competes with VOIP. VOIP is already available and requires no additional "work" to get it to work, so why use Mumble? In order for Mumble to be widely used it MUST be fully integrated with the game and no additional "work" must be put on the user. I don't forsee this being resolved on BF2 due to programming limitations but I do hope they can do this with Arma2.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
I suspect that was an ironic statement, as its equally biased, in that the defining variable has nothing to do with mumble usage; but general level of skill and teamwork of the players involved.mat552 wrote:That's an unfair comparison Cassius. No one has raised any problems with what mumble is for, people raise problems with how it's accomplished and what the side effects are.
I'd like to see a random team of 32 people culled from the current playing population using mumble versus a tight knit clan that's been doing PR together since .2 who don't have mumble.
I'd like to see a red tractor drag-race a green aston martin.
Then I will know which colour cars go faster, right?
Or how about equally skilled and familiarised teams, one with, one without(or an alternative of their choice)? Sounds fairer.

That uh..that was kind of the joke Mongol.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

Hmm with the amount of people who say its difficult to use, i think I might have to create a little video tutorial.. Do you think that would help?calstifer wrote:Ive tried and ive tried, but i still seriosuly have no idea how to use it...

That would be great since I've been looking for a video tutorial.Hmm with the amount of people who say its difficult to use, i think I might have to create a little video tutorial.. Do you think that would help?
I have to many questions about mumble.
1. The instructions in this forum say "6. Once connected, join the channel of the PR game server that you will be playing on and load up PR". But what if I want to start PR first, check the server list if server is not empty or full and if the maps or server is to my liking? It says you need to start mumble first, enter the right channel and the start pr. So basically it's only for people that always go to the same server and know the name of the server by heart? Or do you need to choose a server from within PR, then alt+tab to go to mumble, select the channel, alt+tab to PR again and hit deploy?
2. In mumble I managed to assign hotkeys but is it best to use the same as the ones of in-game voip? So B for squad talk and V to talk to commander in VOIP and then in mumble B for local speech and V for squad leader audio? What else do you need? I programmed volume up to Keypad+, volume down to Kp-, mute to Kp* so is that ok?
3. I wanted to collapse all the channels to have a better overview of all channels but they keep expanding all the time as players come and go.
4. Could it be that there aren't any coop channels in the mumble list?
Final question: I don't know what to choose anymore, teamspeak, voip, ventrillo, mumble... Everytime I connect to a game server everybody is using something else. Is there a way to see in the game server list if people are using ts, voip or mumble?
Anyway I'm very confused since I'm not good at this. Wish everyone was on VOIP since that's stupid simple.
Thanks for your help

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
1. You can join a channel at any time during the game and it will link automatically, so nothing to worry about.
2. No. Since the latency is different between the two programs you'll just end up echoing what you said. Keep the mumble hotkeys separate. I only use local and global hotkeys, though I do have mute/unmute bound as well, but you'll rarely ever use them.
3. Yeah, I think that's just something you'll have to live with until there's a new update.
4. If you want to know who's using mumble then just open mumble and check what server channels are populated, then you know who's using mumble. Teamspeak/Ventrilo is pointless unless you're part of a clan/community that uses it so just disregard that. All you need is VOIP and mumble.
Servers that frequently have mumblers are Tactical Gamer, PRTA, UKWF, and Pelitutka, with a few others having sprinklings of mumblers. Stick with those if you want to use mumble as it becomes a little pointless if only one other guy on the server has mumble.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
A. Some people have issues with minimization such as lag crashing and other various problems this also can include along time to alt tab back into the game.
B. The point? Squad leaders and maybe some heavy assets but past that you can talk in the game. You can type to other squads.
C. Unorganized, its very cluttered everything is all over the place and much of the time its hard to find the server.
D. Does not auto connect this i think is the biggest problem when i switch servers it should auto connect me to that mumble it makes it much easier and less of a headache.
E. Many people use teamspeak/vent that means there is voice coming from mumble, ts/vent and the game far too confusing and still no point seen.
Suggestions
An overlay would help much like xfire where you can see through it to the game if this exists it sure does not work for me.
Auto connect, take the alt+tab aspect out of it.
Explain on 2 installers it has been "suggested" but lets not forget gamespy arcade and its fails when i first saw mumble that's what i thought it was maybe some better explanation during PR install would help.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
Whats really annoying is when people join a mumble enforced server them moan be cause they got warned and then kicked for not been on mumble. You don't have to play on mumble enforced servers, do you?

I tried, and i dont see the point, most of the time the "locational" sound thingie is turned off.
Or the enemy team can hear you too.
Assuming u even know which mumble server u have to join.
If it would autoconnect (on serverjoin) to a channel with all the other squadleaders (on your team) it would be great.
As it is,its just a Hassle and useless, even an annoyance.
What we need is an ingame-option to talk directly and selective to other squadleaders, like the commander can.
But mumble, bah.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
But there's only 1 Server to join, with the channels most servers have a team 1 & team 2, all you have to do once your in-game is ask whether your team 1 or team 2 & you get an answer immediately, if you don't check whos on your team & join their channel. Locational is always turned on.bob123123123 wrote:I tried, and i dont see the point, most of the time the "locational" sound thingie is turned off.

So is being able to actually talk to an APC to try & get a lift, or at a helicopter, or even as a pilot being able to talk to the squad in the back explaining why they've just pulled up & ran away without crashing, being able to talk to other squad leaders, and other squads useless? When you have two squads together in a building under fire (something that happens alot on servers which use mumble) mumble is vital.
As for typing to other squads - give me a break! Very few people are constantly checking chat when they're in a fire fight. Mumble is easier than typing.
The only possibly reason i can think of for not using Mumble is if you crash when you alt tab - apart from that it seems most arguements are made up, because I don't know anyone who's actually had a problem trying to find out what server they're in on mumble (It's fairly simple seeing as they have the same name) and auto connect - oh boo hoo you have to alt tab! Shock! Horror! You're changing server anyway, when you alt tab the loading screen carries on.
Point of mumble:
- Talking to nearby people not in your squad, if you're moving up with another squad, shout over Mumble where a target is & everyone knows where it is, not stop, and start typing then get shot, for me it's just press H and shout "OMG CONTACT!!!!11!" (I don't actually say !!!!1111!
). - Being able to talk to Pilots/APC Drivers to tell them where you want to go, helpful for the Driver/Pilot because they can concentrate on driving/flying rather than chat, easier & quicker for the squad because talking is better than typing.
- Ability for Squad leaders to communicate with each other using the Squad Leader channel when there's no commander (as is usually the case).
- You can actually talk to people between rounds, which is quite nice, especially when you have a good squad going & want to make the same squad next round.

Ive become so use to mumble, that without it PR is just simply boring. (No offence PR team, but mumble just amplifies the awesomeness of the game so much that without it, it just can't compare)

On public servers, sadly this often isn't the type of talk that is going on.gazzthompson wrote:You dont want or need to hear other squad leaders ? you dont want or need to hear the guy next to you call out an enemy contact ? you dont want i need to hear a guy call for APC fire support on a certain position etc etc ?

Seriously what kind of servers are you on where people using mumble are being incredibly annoying 24/7? Use PRTA or TG or UKWF if there's guys on mumble with that & see the difference

You only hear 1 - 5 at a time in most situations unless you are not running mumble with administrator privileges in which case you will hear everyone on the server.Raufbold wrote:Hearing 5 million idiots i just don't want and need to hear
