Ok Guys. Steam!?1

Post by Airbornedude »

Some like steam some don't. I'm one for getting this game advertised and out. I wanna see more noobs blown up by the deadliest weapons in PR. Let's discuss steam.

Pros for steam include popularity, easy updating, easy advertising, and battlefield 2 promotion.

Unless the plan is to upgrade to PR 2 and ditch PR, steam can be helpful keeping the game alive. I think a $9.99 BF2: Original promo for PR would be BADASS.

I agree. If the PR team ever wants to make PR2 a paid game, which it probably will be, I suggest Steam as it's primary distribution system.

I believe that the forum community does well at keeping the community alive, Distributing PR:BF2 via Steam is an interesting idea, but it's all judged by the PR Development team.

Yeah Steam is definitely a nice platform and can reach millions of people. Could help devs a lot to get the game more popular, and prepare the ground for PR2. :)

Gee... I bet the devs never would have thought about Steam as a distribution method. :p

I think steam for PR would be good, because the amount of people who get corrupt files, steam searches for missing files, and downloads them

From what I understood, he's not talking about PR2, but PR for BF2...

Thread: PR2 - FAQ
How much will it cost?
Right now we don't know. It will possibly be sold via subscription, possibly through Steam. Yes, Steam can be awkward, but it has a lot of great infrastructure for PC sales and distribution.

However, we, like everyone else, have no real idea of what shape or state the market for video games will be like by the time PR2 comes to be a commercially viable project: watch this space, and don't believe everything you hear.
;-)

I don't think we can expect that PR"1" is going to be available on steam but it's highly likely that PR2 will be distrubed through steam

It could work, when you buy red orchestra ostfront 41-45 you have the option to download the mods along with it.

When people buy bf2 they could have the option to get PR.... Although you may have to pay some sort of fee for them doing all the hosting.

Why would they need to pay money to steam? Whatshisname who recently made a ton of money with his game offere it off his site.

Only reason for me to buy steam is, its dirt cheap, or a classic I cant find elsewhere. All else being equal I prefer the physical copy. If they have an issue with you over one game, they hold ALL of your steamgames hostage. One guy on the forums had issues with a game wanted to return it and had his transaction reversed. Sure enough Steam shut down his account untill he payed up, cutting off all the games he payed for.

Teamfortress 2 - A game ontop of the half-life 2 engine.
RO - A game ontop of the unreal engine.
Mods - Games ontop of the original games ontop of the original engines.

These titles are great successes on steam and they are old. I bet the tf2 guys would've never thought the success they'd have on steam.

I hate Steam, they ban me for no reason. I also think their application is intrusive and unconstitutional :cussing:

I guess you guys who suggest this all want your name on the credits page for this SUPAH awesome never suggested before suggestion?

Lol.

But anyway the PR people cant sell BF2: PR on steam and i dont think they can sell ARMA : PR either. So what would the point really be to put it on steam if EA, BH wont allow it?

Yes because steam bans people for no reason

But seriously guys if your talking about BF2 :P R, what would be the point in using it now we got this far without it why start now?

and for PR2 well...

Project Reality : Realistic Gaming Redefined - Project Reality 2

It will most probably be only digitally distributed as that is the cheapest and most effective way these days imo

King I could care less about being recognized. I love PR though.

Sure steam has been suggested a ton of times, but why is there no action yet?

I agree PR boomed after winning moddb.

But this game is a niche. You are catering to a niche group of gamers. Leave the younger gamers in the black and they will never hear of pr2 or care.

Unless the whole point here is to keep the PR community tight niche tight and challenging, I don't see steam as a threat.

Some can play steam, some can play off discs, some can playing from a direct dl; why not open up?

Great example. Gary's mod.

Problem with Steam would be that they want to earn money. If PR is going to be distributed via Steam it would have to cost money since Steam wants its share.

For PR2... Maybe... Hell I would pay money for a game like PR! Maybe more than for all the other games I buy...

But please don't use Steam... I only had problems with it so far. Don't know why, but none of my steambased games seems to work in a proper way right after install...

Also I prefer discs. If you have a problem with a Steamgame you can't return the game and get your money back. (Another point is that you can't forget your accountdata... :-/ )

this has been discussed to death, i also do recall the devs mentioning that steam will be the most likely option, due to the way it can do updates and patches automatically.

That's because when I google Project reality and steam, I get more posts complaining about steam and PR not working.

Whether this is about direct2harddrive monopoly, steam privacy rules, exploitation of its customer base, valve monopoly, etc...That still doesn't explain much when it comes to getting this game out.

A strong steam community would make PR2 digital distribution HOT.
