Sniper Zoom
How much exactly is the zoom of the m40a1? When I used the kit, it seemed like the zoom was tiny. Snipers are suppose to shoot extreme range shots like 600-1000m shots, but I had trouble zeroing on a stationary target from (GLTDed) 365m. Im not asking for like 50x zoom so i can get a headshot from 1000m, but I'm pretty sure at over 600m, the target will be about 10 pixels big.

Re: Sniper Zoom
Are you sure you were in the second zoom level? IIRC theres 2 zoom levels depending on the rifle. I believe 3x and 4x/5x or something.

Re: Sniper Zoom
hi,
it depends on the rifle, therefore on the scope. most have only one zoom level, some have two. for those with one its 4x (pretty sure for all) and for those with double zoom a second 10x level.
irl adjustable scopes or scopes with zoom larger than 4x are scarcely used, because a sniper
a) is a recon unit therefore does need as small as possible equipment and better scopes are bigger in general.
b) that has to eliminate a target, will mostly not shoot at 600meters+, because even is you calculate everything correctly, there is still the possibility that a gust of wind catches the bullet and makes it either miss or a non lethal shot. after that one shot your position is definitly compromised (snipers irl DO NOT use silencers) and you wont get another shot. dependable on his training he will get closer to like 300-400 to get a 100% shot.

The scope the US Army uses on M24's is a 10x Leupold scope.
The UK Army uses 3-12x Schmidt & Bender.
The USMC also uses the Schmidt & Bender, but until recently had always used a 10x Unertl.
The objectives on the above scopes are 40mm & 50mm, which is considered a medium sized and large sized objective, respectively.
In game, I believe all the sniper rifles except for the SMLE and the SSG sniper rifle the MEC uses are equipped with optics capable of 10x zoom. Not sure what the MEC rifle uses; maybe a 8x?
Also, because snipers operate in small numbers, they actually carry more equipment and then a grunt a line infantry unit would on patrol. Sniper rifles are often heavier than assault rifles (M24 is over 5kg empty while M16 is 3.5kg empty) and sniper rifles' optics are larger and heavier as well. Yes, snipers try to travel as light as they can, but there things you simply can't compromise on like the quality of your optics, the necssary amount of food, water, ammunition, etc. etc.
