Good screen recording software
Hey, I really have been wanting to record a few game play videos of me and my friends playing but haven't been able to find a good screen recording program yet. What do you guys suggest that I use?
I'm looking for something that can record both the audio output from my head set and the input from my microphone. Also, the programs I have tried so far are either really horrible quality or they make my game lag a bit. Is there any program that can avoid this problem.
I prefer a free, but I would be willing to pay a little bit of money.
Thanks abunch for any suggestions.

The industry standard is and always has been Fraps.

I am continually on the lookout for something better than FRAPS - for a long time, my system wouldn't even run it. Alas, I never could find anything, and now I have a system that does run it.
For a long time, I used something called ScreenRecorder Gold, but it used a funky AVI format that was difficult to convert.

Its not as laggy if you record to a 2nd harddrive. I bought a external harddrive mainly for recording and noticed a huge performance boost.Fraps is laggy, you gotta have good spec to use it.
Well theres always xfire and thats freeI prefer a free, but I would be willing to pay a little bit of money.

A 2nd harddrive shouldn't make a great deal of difference. The game does all the loading before play so there's no HDD thrashing going on in-game.Foxxy wrote:Its not as laggy if you record to a 2nd harddrive. I bought a external harddrive mainly for recording and noticed a huge performance boost.

Issue I had with Fraps was that with WinXP I couldn't record my mic and my audio output at the same time. Also if I set it to record the audio output it would mute my microphone

theres wegame its somewhere near FRAPS and its free.
nope, when you start recording the HDD needs to do double the work, the work for the game and write huge ammounts of data per second on to it, that why if you dont have a good enough HD youll get stuttering either way if you want to recording its best to have 2 HDDs (externals are good enough for recording)AquaticPenguin wrote:A 2nd harddrive shouldn't make a great deal of difference. There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

If you don't want any stuttering get a SSD. Although you will probably only be able to record for a few minuets until its full haha.

Maybe a better idea to wait a few years until the price goes down...Mora wrote:If you don't want any stuttering get a SSD. Although you will probably only be able to record for a few minuets until its full haha.

Hey, have you tried the new XFire video recorder? I use it and wow does it record everything in amazing quality, Sound from headset input and output and you have thew option to record in HD or not, when recording in HD it takes up alot of space, for instance 2 min of footage could be 2gigs of HDD, but not in HD I have recorded 15 min at about 2gig of HDD space....Check it out Here
you can easily start and stop recording when ever you want, I set up my hot key to: Home button and I have long clips and tons of short firefight clips!
Good Luck
BTW It's FREE lol

Xfire is a good alternative but the quality is much worse. Also sometimes has problems with audio-sync
