They are different knives.

I think the USMC uses this same bayonet, as well as having the Ka-Bar.

Just a quick question I read, but I did not understand. Why do the M16 series of rifles not have bayonets anymore?

Why is there knives still in game though? I would think most battles would be won with guns and not knives.

Knife is the most silent and wasteless weapon for FOB-killing.

That is my only use for it currently...

As an old soldier, you never want to be anywhere without a knife/cutting implement (one of my biggest gripes with Crysis :P ).

Killing silently, puncturing tires, cutting (anything from rope/wood/hoses/etc.), and so on. Cutting implements may be some of the oldest tools of man or warfare, but they are still essential even today.

As in RL, it mostly serves as a tool in PR. Knifing FOBs and, sometimes, rally points (if you happen to stumble across one these days), without wasting ammo, as ComradeHX said.

And if you happen to face an enemy in CQC and have an empty magazine, it's also a last-resort weapon.

And then there's the backstabbing of snipers of course ;)

Because why announce to the rest of the enemy team "HERE I AM" when you can knife the guy you managed to sneak up on without a sound.

As for the US Army and the bayonet. They will no longer be doing bayonet training at basic.

One less skill for soldiers to master at boot camp: bayonet training

I can attest to it being a last resort weapon. Playing as Taliban on Kokan as a "specialist" and in a remote area with no ammo carriers and already bleeding out.
I had run through all the Ppsh ammo and grenades, and was resorting to using the breaching shells in the shotgun, to defend myself. But I eventually ran out.
I layed down in a ditch and pulled out my knife. I waited until I heard an enemy moving to the top of the ditch and charged and stabbed with my knife.
To my surprise, I heard the guy go down (my screen was completely blocked due to the bleed out).
I was shot and killed a couple seconds later, but not before diminishing the enemies fighting capability by one.

It was too much work to keep updating the animations so we just went back to the old way.

Seeing as the OP had his question answered, I am going to close this thread as there is no need to discuss the knife in-game.
