[Faction Proposal] UN (Greece+GB) and Turkish Faction

Hey guys,

This is a proposal for 2 new unique factions in which will be used on a new map I am creating.

To set the background for this 'mini-mod', My focus is on a 4km map which focuses on the southern half of the Greek island, Karpathos.

Why I chose this?

Basically I decided to do this mod as a challenge and as texturing and 3d modelling is a big part of my life, I would like to push my skills to see what I can accomplish. I also felt that choosing this area of the world would be a great new aspect to bring to PR, as this area of the world has not yet been explored or even contemplated.

The idea behind the map

The basic idea is the Greek/Turkish rivalries over islands in the agean reached breaking point and an invading Turkish force was dispatched to cease islands and bring them under Turkish control. However the UN has stepped in and sent a defensive coalition consisting of US, French and British forces to help the Greek army repel the Turkish invaders.

Why UN intervention?

I have always wanted to do this to create something different for pr, two nations working together on the same team has not yet been implemented and i believe that this would work really well and add a sense of realism to the game play of the map.

What has been done so far?

As of yet I have only the very basics of the map (the heights, ground textures, water level and roads) I also have almost completed the skins for each Greek and Turkish soldiers but still have work to do on the kits.

How will this two nation faction work?

Basically the idea is to have the light body texture using Greek camo and the heavy, British DPM. I will create a unique kit layout using 3ds max, much like i did with the British factions kit geoms.

So will there be unique Buildings and statics?

Yes a range of new Greek architecture will be created solely for use for this map



This may sound like a lot of long hard work, and that?s because it is. However like I say I am using this project as a test of my skills and to learn more in the ways of different techniques and styles of modding. I really like the Idea, but I don't think UN would be involved. Why? The UN is a heterogenous organisation of states and those in favour of turkey (most middle eastern states, perhaps some NATO-states, Iran etc.) would probably mostly balance out those against the agression. Also a NATO task force wouldn't be possible because turkey too is NATO, so most likely it will be just UKAF+HAF against turkey. Probably more a matter of a name change as you seem to actually want to do just that.

The Map layout looks great. can't wait to see it evolve beyond concept stage. Thumbs up!

the main practical problem, which I believe has untill today deterred (I hope I spell this word right ;) ) project reality from trying the "nations-at-war approach" is that you would have 4 nationalities, using 3 languages respectively and have different uniforms, a load weapons and vehicles, etc.
letting the heavy model use the british uniform and the light greek uniforms still gives problems with the kits, you can say for instance rifleman AT will be british, rifleman scoped greek etc. but that would give people spawning with rifleman+optics who request the rifleman AT kit a greek uniform and british helmets, pouches etc.
also, which language are you going to use? which weapons and vehicles will be left aside because the kitslots are full? and is it feasible to have greek, french, british and american soldiers in one squad?
only thing that will make this all(except for the voices) work is making for instance all infantry greek, all air assets american, all armor british and all... boats(?) french (no offense intended here :p )

I don't want to put you off, the idea is very nice but these problems will probably leave it unsupported by the pr-dev's, unless you choose one faction of the coalition (preferably the french as they're close to completion yet lacking in maps).

I think the proposal of a UN force is a nice idea, but can we please get done with current factions before we add any new ones?

lol, what do you mean too late? pr won't expire at 1.0 if that's what you meant ;)

What idiot told you that? It's all over the place that pr 1.0 was "just a number" or "another release".
It will continue to grow, specifically with new factions.
