When I snipe I do so in a 4 man recon element where I order my squad to call contacts before engaging and we generally have a medic a specialist a marksman and my self (Sl/Sniper) and most of the time we report the enemy concentrations to INF squads and only pick off techies and stragglers.

It is quite common that someone joins a squad just to grab a sniper kit, and then leaves. The new thing here was to create a new "honeypot" squad just to get the kit. The moment the round starts the squad is suddenly left without a squad leader....

the OP is actually saying theyguy MADE a squad named INF voip (to lure his victims) and then took the sniper kit while SL left and made a one man locked squad
There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

40k is deep like that.

I'm fine with people joining squad and and tell that they want sniperkit and will leave after.
But, starting thread was about a guy starting a squad, with a name leading people to believe it was a teamworksquad. He just got his gun and left folks hanging. Not ok i think.
Should be reported.
More servers should (some actually do ) warn (sometimes kick) for non-teamplaying activaties.
Worse for me is people joing squad, grabbing sniperkit and staying hehe.
Always ask the SL what kit he wants in the squad. Many with me will kick the guy out of the squad. Most often I do explain the whys and tell em to switch kit. If they listen; they stay on. They don't...it's the boot.
Many debate the when and how to use sniperkit. If you're an offensive fullmansquad most often sniperkit will not (IMO) improve squads capabilities to cap/destroy obj.
On defense; maybe guarding a fob and there are long open areas to cover. I'ts more useful.
What I want to see more is sniperteam (sniper/spotter) being on standby for offensive actions.
Let em sneak up, shoot the tow-guy before apc rolls in with Inf. Sometimes when teamplay is good we got 2-3 squads attacking an obj. As a sniperteam, hang behind them. Shoot that annoying lmg guy. Avoid close combat.
Someone else here wrote that for a sniper to be most efective in these areas there needs to be a commander to divide jobs. Very true.

Many seem to hate snipers. I don't. It's a very effetcive weapon in many cases. Just think they are best used outside normal inf-squads.
Standing rule: Get the kit ths SL wants you to have, ask!

This is wrong and shouldbe dealt with on servers, but admins pretty much dont give a damn. about "small" stuff like this.

damn chicken don't give them another reason to take sniper! :D

and in good server 1-man lock-squads isn't allowed.

i also think that the player being honest and creating an actual sniper/spotter/1337 squad will have less flaming against him. With that, and actually killing people/spot(rare) not just take the kit and get killed then lonewolfing to get the kit back.

i only want to say one thing...

A good, old and experience player can be an alone sniper... but need to do too many actions at the same time:

-read the map and the round and posibly enemy movements hearing all
-chat/mark enemies/objetives/armors/FOB?s on the map
-talk with other SL in mumble channel
-spot for air elements
-hide him position and move when it needed
-shoot to primery objetives SL/medics/AA/HAT?s/...
-And the most important... dont die never ???

If someone can do all of this at the same time i dont care if its a lonewolfer or grab a kit in a full squad...
I had good games like a lonewolf with sniper kit doing all this and i can say that its tooo stressing and u need a cold bleed

(sorry if i use a bad inglish)

I usually shoot the sniper with a pistol, if he's the kind of guy that is talkative in the setup fase, gets the medic kit... Bam he requested a sniper. You kidding me? Kick + pistol shot so he gets smart.
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

its just unfortunate that instead of Asking someone to come and help spot and for security they just bounce and go lone wolf lol

The problem isn't that someone utilizes it - a good sniper can decide an assault.

What this topic is about is people creating a squad called VoIP INF, which will make teamwork oriented players join, and then leave it without head. Often times someone will take over command of the squad, but not always the teamplayers are also capable of leading a squad well.
And just like with snipers - a bad sniper isn't useful, and neither is a bad SL.

I'd rather the lone wolf be kciked to make room for a new teamplayer than stay and be useless.

I have no problem with a guy who has played in my squad for a while asking for a sniper kit while we're defending a flag (for example, estate in Fools Road) and if he's good at it - this guy can really be decisive in battles. But yeah I kick lonewolfers without hesitation. Of course it's better you first ask why are they not with they're squad. But some people just can't do teamwork and therefore should not play this game. At least not in TW/Mumble servers.

This is why i assign everyone a kit, and if they don't respond, they get a rapid kick, and i warn all other SL's =] Its the way to go.. Also there always seems to be ways to tell if they are, they usually don't talk at all with a mic, or just don't respond all together..

The main point is, is that a good sniper will make a sniper squad, and request it by having 2+ people in their squad for spotting etc. NOT joining or creating a random squad and taking it anyway, these people obviously have no intent on using it properly. If you cant get someone to join your sniper squad but intend to use it properly, ask someone to quickly hop over to your squad so you can request it, and then they can hop back.

Godot wrote:Just saw this funky new trick (for me anyway) on a server today:

Some guy creates a squad during warm-up, names it "INF VOIP". 5 other people join, and the moment we spawn in the squad leader requests sniper, leaves the squad and creates his own one-man locked squad

So the nicely named INF VOIP squad was also a honey pot to get enough bodies in so he could get himself a sniper rifle... Argh!

Just felt like sharing...

Thats really low, hope the team losing because of one disfunctional infantery squad on the field (assuming disfunctionality on the opfor does not balance things out) ruins the fun for him, but I am guessing he is just looking forward to his 4 - 3 achieved with the sniper rifle at the end of the round.

Joining and leaving with the sniper kit is no biggie, most likely somebody else will take the spot, but leaving 5 guys back who thought they were going to have a squadleader is weak. I think Sniper rifles should be avaiable to a single guy. You dont need a spotter if you can only shoot 800m and thats on big maps.

You Sniper haters are not even going to utilize the kit anyway, how dose it affect you at all that someone else does?
I can tell by your signature that you are always the one to grab a sniper and make a one man squad.
