Isn't it time the asset textures got an update?

Post by ZiRo »

The mod itself recieved a large beautifying this last patch (new maps which are gorgeous, great german textures, new brit textures etc). The new brit camouflage is the best flat-textured camouflage i've ever seen in a game. It's actually a challenge to pick them out against desert or scrub.

However, I feel the asset textures are falling behind with the mod - they're like the US ACU texture, glowing bright, on every map, even desert maps. The assets always stand out like a sore thumb.

Even if you can't make them blend any better (lighting issue or whatever) - it's about time for an update, don't ya think?

Their is only so much DEVs can do....the updated the US Army kit geos in .9
and the USMC(I believe) in .95

If you could contribute to the team in that sense I'm sure they would love it.

I assume by asset, you mean static (buildings, objects) textures? Since everything in the mod that isn't the ground is an asset :p

Fact is that right now there are very few people making statics for the mod, changing the static textures would be an enormous undertaking that certainly can't be accomplished with the current number of static modelers. The current pallet sheets could be adjusted, but major changes are out of the question without many more hands to do the work

I believe the above post is right, although I'd say static structures, particularly vBF2 ones on maps such as Ramiel/Basra need new textures as if their lives depended on getting them.

To result in even lower fps for half the community? No thanks, fine like this.

I meant the deployable static assets :)

I've done some modelling and texturing in the past but as far as bf2 modding goes, I'm clueless.

If someone fancies holding my hand to the point where I can get stuff in / out I'm happy to contribute some time to this fantastic mod.
