Alternate camera views in aircraft?
I'm just wondering why we have the alternate camera views keys(7, 8, 9) in aircrafts?
When you can just hold in [Alt] and move you mouse to look around

Re: Alternate camera views in aircraft?
You press them when you want your view to stay at the different position so you can steer your plane or heli while looking left or right.

Remember that you can get other views to if you left click while in 7 8 or 9.
Example:
hit 7 then left click as if you were to shoot with a rifle.
You will now have a different view.

It would be nice if they weren't part of the weapon selection since I often use "F" to switch rather than the numbers.

Joystick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Look up "Hat Switch" in there. You can code up your joy stick's hat switch to thous view codes, so you push your hat switch to the left, and then look left.
In fact here's my joy sticks profile on my hat switch for BF2.

In any case, its tough for us keyboard pilots to use the [alt] + Mouse sometimes (most of the time its just inconvenient) .
Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

How do you get back to default view after using 7, 8, or 9?

Re: Alternate camera views in aircraft?
If you fly jets you will know how important and helpful they are!
I have a hat switch on my Joystick and I have the up button assigned to 8 which looks up in the jet, 7 looks left and 9 right
and the most important of all is that when I press down I have number 2 or 3 assigned which takes me back to my main AA rockets.
This can be helpful when you are chasing an enemy jet and he gets out of your screen and you want to keep track of him so you use these buttons... because if you hold CTRL and move your mouse you wont be able to control your jet...

What about with a transport helo? I couldn't get 1-0 to go back to the original view.

The views in the F key weapons cycle button is pretty confusing. I don't know how many people like them there.

Re: Alternate camera views in aircraft?
I wish we could have this option for us joystick users. This is a video from the Combined Arms mini-mod for PR (fast-forward to 3:15 or so):
YouTube - PR Combined Arms Test Gameplay
"In BF2 you not able to steer jets and look around ["mouselook"]. The way its done here [in Combined Arms] is turning off the mouse toggle feature inside the code files for that jet so it frees up the camera and the steering inputs. Doing this has negative side effects though which includes keyboard/mouse players not being able to fly as well as the hud constanly moving around with yuour camera locking onto things its not suppose to."
