I don't get it. If you're in search of an answer to the "one soldier wouldn't kill his teammate over equipment in real life argument", here's an explanation or two:

A rifleman, in a regular infantry unit, has decided to go and obtain equipment without permission and leave his post to use it without the permission or the training. He would receive some type of punishment for the theft and for violating his orders, and only if he wasn't shot by an enemy while he was on his mission to go find and engage random enemies far away from his post.

if he doesnt get caught and imprisoned for desertion first (depending on what army he works for.) OR you get shot for defecting. how do they know you werent taking that weapon out somewhere to pick off friendly troops?

If some unknown guy is charged with leading a squad of men and upon their first mission, he grabs a barret .50cal, Says "See ya" , walks towards the combat zone, and doesnt look back... we'd all think that was badass!

But in PR, its a **** move...

Its good in server where I play, revenge tk will earn you warning/kick
