Projectile Life

Post by Reddeath »

Does any projectile have infinite life until it hits something as in you can shoot from 1 side of the map to the other side of the map given the proper angle and power of whatever your firing?

or does a bullet/tank round/RPG/etc disappear after a certain time frame or distance traveled?

also a side question as an insurgent collaborator no matter when I die I see that I have been killed for helping the insurgency even after 1 min from spawn using a weapon other kit epipen or anything. Is it a bug or just means nothing? Also being a martyr of the insurgency or whatever, what does that mean? and does healing myself cancel my rights to not be shot?

I know that tank rounds are limited to something like 1500m

There have been times where I am literally walking in the middle of nowhere in kashan or some other 4km map wayyy far from the battle for whatever reason and a random bullet hits the ground near me. New question related to the above one...mortars. Do they actually fire an object that travels to the location, or does it make a shooting animation and then depending on your aim it spawns the projectile above the location? or maybe not even above? would be amazing to see a mortar hit a heli mid flight.

Edit: Might as well see if I can get all my questions answered in one thread lol

do you aim at the middle or the tip of the top of the cross hair? I can never shoot accurately with this gun and it looks like at a range it hits the top of the cross hair but that just doesn't seen logical

Little offtopic: why i can't download any battlecorder file? I press the download button and then the pop up window says that can't download file. Was on this forum a topic about that?

Either the server containing the file has it no longer, or you do not have access to it (restricted or passworded)

With the new distant sounds, it makes me think the gun on attack choppers is unlimited. However this could just be the actual sound that has a large range of audibility.

Noticed this in a video I took on Iron Eagle. Around 1:50 with the chopper battle, you can hear the impacts of the gun in the distance for quite awhile.

You're supposed to aim with the point of the arrow. The bars are way too thick for them to function as the crosshairs for a sniper rifle.

Thanks chuc.

Also when you print screen it saves a screenshot as .jpg and .png files in documents > battlefield 2 > screenshots, or so it did for me atleast.

You can use medic bag on anyone without becoming fair game. Martyr status means that you were killed outside rules of engagement and the person who killed you will face all the penalties whereas you are eligible for all the virgins (count, age and gender may vary).

I didn't know that  explains why I suck with that scope in FH2...

The reticule for the SMLE No. 4 sniper rifle is off. It tends to shoot low, which means you have to aim higher than your target, which then means that the bars visually block your target at range. Needless to say, it's incredibly frustrating. I told Sniperdog of this, and he said he would look into it. I'm not sure if he has yet. This used to be the best sniper rifle in the game, bar-none. Now that it's a shadow of it's former self, I don't even bother using it.

On the other hand, the Dragunov is now God-like.

I have removed several posts documenting a known exploit.

If you find an exploit, REPORT IT via PM to a MOD, DEV or tester. DO NOT POST THEM ON THE FORUMS!

Autocannons on attack choppers and APCs have a range varying around 1500-2500 after that they detonate in the air. I can't remember which thread I read it from, if someone knows let us know.
Rockets and missiles, I don't know whether they have unlimited range but sometimes you see them flying across your base etc.
I'd like to learn more on this subject too, especially bullets.

I don't get to quote myself often, so I will take this limited opportunity to do so:

Don't freaking post exploits guys! The exploit mentioned previously regarding the mortars is a known issue and has been dealt with.

Regarding the mortar issues... yes we know about it and it has been fixed for the next update, so PLEASE stop continually posting about it, you aren't helping.

Regarding the OP's question. Projectile life is defined by a time to live value in that given projectile template's code and can very widely depending on the projectile. More often then not though a projectile will remain in existence well after it leaves your view distance.
