New Player

Post by Akkilles101 »

Hey guys, longtime Battlefield fan. Been playing since 1942. Own 42, nam, bf2, 2142 on PC. Been playing 43 and BFBC2 on PS3. Stopped playing BF2 and 2142 about 2 yrs ago due to computer problems. Got the itch last wk. Used to play on a mod community, I think it was Battlefield Combat or something like that and enjoyed it. I LOVE playing with a good squad and have loosely followed PR since right about the time I stopped playing 2 yrs ago. Went and picked up a new copy of BF2 and been knocking the rust off all wkend. Just downloaded PR and going home after work to load and hop on. Hope to see you all on the battlefield.

Also, is there any advice you can give me to start off? I have read all about PR and the structure. I could use a good group of guys to play with on a regular basis. I am pretty busy right now with work and school, but will be playing Sat and Sun. And Mon, Wed, and Fri nights regularly.

As of now, I cannot find my mic. I have a logitech bluetooth mic that I use with my PS3, and my PC has bluetooth. I will look into getting it to work with my PC. Will this be a problem?

Welcome to the forums.

A few suggestions:
  1. Read the Manual.
  2. Learn how to use Mumble.
  3. Fix your mic ( Shouldn't be a prob but best to have one).
  4. Get some ingame experience.
  5. Be prepared for fail rounds in PR but dont give up as the good teamwork rounds are worth it.
  6. If you want to practise flying do it on a co-op server or an empty deployment server.
  7. Don't do drugs.

Battlefield: Desert Combat.

Welcome to PR, don't let the learning curve put you off :) Co-Op servers are a good place to learn..

and yeah a mic is vital...

First of all, welcome to the forums and PR!

Personally, I would recommend that you just join a squad on a pub server, say hello, and ask questions as you go along. The vast majority of PR players are very helpful, especially to new players.

Well, most ;)

Only joking. A good tip from me would be to find the server closest to where you live (Your lowest ping). You'll have a much easier time adjusting, since things will be smoother.

Learn how to use assets on co-op first. An ASSET are things like tanks, apcs, helicopters, jets, etc. Remember to read the rules of a server you want to play on before you play. Rules differ from server to server, IE No "Baserape" (attacking the un-cappable main base of the enemy) "asset stealing" (essentially, your squad name tells the team what you are doing. If you have a dedicated squad for taking an apc, let them take it. However, rules differ from server to server for this rule, so just read it over)

Learn how to shoot. You can't run and gun in PR. You shoot how you would in real life. If you sprint around a corner, aim down your sight, put your aperture on their head and fire, chances are you're not going to hit. The engine has limitations, and the DEVs try their best to make everything fair and realistic. DO NOT try to do anything you do not know how to do on a multiplayer server. Most specifically is flying, using armor, and using heavy anti tank weaponry. If you don't know how to do it, you will most certainly FAIL. Practice in CO-OP before you try in a multiplayer game. If you join a populated Co-Op server, you can usually find someone that knows how to do things, in order to help teach you ^_^

Also, I'd recommend you read the forum rules, the manual, and read up on how to use mumble. Trust me, it's worth it.

As a first time player, after you get some time getting used to the controls in co-op, I suggest TG(Tactical Gamer) as a first time server since you're from the US. Just a warning about TG, we have a Supporting Member kick that will kick the longest playing non-SM. TG has a loyal and good player base and pretty much anyone with a TG tag that is squad leading will definitely help out with new members.

One big thing is to just make sure you say that you state that you are a new player and that you have learned most of the basics. When you join the squad stick with the standard rifleman kit or medic(good if you're not the best at shooting) and always, ALWAYS ask your squad leader for a Limited or Specialty kit before taking it. Thats a big pet-peeve of SL's when their Squad Members take kits that are not needed.

Some things that might happen in some of your first games are: Dying a lot, not being on the winning team and end up losing, not being able to handle the fancy and shiny weapons and vehicles. Just be patient and have fun. If you're ever on TG, look for my name and I'll happily help you out. (My name isn't my forum name, its:

Got on last night from about 6PM to 10PM. Loved it from the get-go. Played in HOG server on the 24/7 Muttrah. Didnt do too great. Ran with the same squad the whole time. Medic the first round then rifleman, then ended with the LMG or auto-rifleman or whatever its called. We were mostly in defensive positions each time. I never won a match. Did alot of setting up FO's. Or 'garrisoning' buildings.

I have dreamt about this type of game since I was a child. Where you have squad organization, dedicated vehicle squads, etc etc. The coolest thing about it is the choppers/trucks ferrying squads around. I love that I can spawn at the carrier, hop in and tell the pilot "E5" and be there in 30 seconds.

Very pretty mod.

Also, i'd like a recommendation on a group of guys or clan to play with. Read above and you will see when I will be playing, mostly. I am in the US on CST. I prefer staying with infantry.

Anybody on TacticalGamer (TG), try to get a spot in an infantry squad and make sure the SL is giving orders and moving as a group. If the squad is all over the place, don't join it.

Most, if not all PR clans have a thread here: PR Clans - Project Reality Forums

Server "clans" can be found in the feedback section: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f29-pr ... r-feedback

There is also the PR tournament, but I suggest you get some experience before applying for sign ups ( sign ups are currently offline ): Project Reality Tournament

Once you have visited servers regulary you will get to know a few people if not alot :) If anything PR is nice because you can have a good teamwork round with anyone, even people you don't know.
