A lot of new BF2 news!

Post by Ugly Duck »

Well.. a lot of new updates recently. Just thought I post some of the major updates for those of us whom have not seen any of them. For starters, laser designation has been removed from the game, but hopefully not the code. As long as it remains in the code PR can use it.
Moving on, here are some of the more positive things I noticed. Birds will fly out of trees when shot at or people move by, I can only imagine what PR and other mod teams can make of this. It was stated that while BF2 will not include totaly demolishable walls/buildings that it is possible, if a mod wishes it. Further more, when people are hit by vehicles they will no longer bump around in front of that vehicle, but be RUN OVER! Finaly some real road kill. BF2 will have waterfalls, wich means it would only make sense that they have changeable water levels... see the picture below. Finally, and probably the best new I saw, was the reported fixing of the bug/glitch in BF:1942 and BF:V where if you jumped in/on a vehicle your character would spas out when it moved around.
Now let's see what this means for PR! For the brids and trees thing, could this mean civilians? No more deserted cities, markets could be alive and people would scatter and hide when shooting started. As for being able to code destructable walls, if it's possible do it. I want to be able to drive my tank into that bunker! Crushing all inside and then continuing through to the other side. While that may be a bit extreme, at least stop the whole thing where a tank gets stuck on trees or small bits of rocks or fences.

Heres a pic of the waterfall, too.

And something else that cought my eye on the random BF2 pic section, don't know if it's been seen or posted before. But it is most certainly a very promising feature.

yeah, i saw that they took out the laser painter, boo, but a completely desructable map is like the holy grail. i can see why they took out the laser thing because you can't really bomb anything thats mobile and with the comander option now in place you wont see much camping.

Updated the post a bit.

If you could move the laser designator to follow the target I don't see a problem. It would have limits, yes, but it would work. It could have also been adapted to be used on helocopters. As I said, we can at least hope it isn't deleted from the code.

depends on the ordinance really if its a LGB then that more for static targets, but most ASM's use the plane or helo's radar.

I was looking forward to the laser designator as well, but I think it would have not been utitlized all that much and would result in a difficult gameplay event to achieve (as it was meant to occur). I think it would be great to have to knock out enemy radar installations as opposed to 4 sticks of C4.

The LCAC was also scrapped from the final release as well.

From what I understand, the LCAC will be shipped in the mod tools, but the not the final build of the game. Based on some of the maps I've seen, I don't think it was of much use. Perhaps we can come up with a map where it will be?

how about using the designators for the hellfires on the apache??
you could have the pilto controlling the FFARs and 2 stingers/aim-9s. and the gunner controlling the hellfires which he must go into the MFD view like in BF2 and keep a designator looked on a target to make the missiles hit it so they arent fire and forget. and they also control the guns

I'm not sure if the laser designators will even be supplied in the mod tools, but there is something similar to what you are describing in the AH-1Z. Would only make sense to apply that to our Apache.
