[Help] painting map

Post by Zyco187 »

I have just started a new desert map USAvsMEC and for some reason I cannot get the terrain the paint sand. I have followed this tutorial Creating A Map For Begginers - (very Image Heavy) - Official BF Editor Forums and used the exact setting only changing the patterns from detail_rock, detail_grass ect to detail_sand obvisouly. This is what my terrain looks like in game. What can I do to fix this ? Also, I need to change my maps name what else do I have to rename other than the fodler ? Thanks.

This is with Detail Texture Mode and all other modes default

It looks like you just painted the texture and not both the texture and color. On the right side of your editor window, below the six boxes that show your textures, you'll see buttons. Click on "both" and then re-paint an area to see the difference.

You'll also need to pick a color to paint with. You can do that on the left side of the editor window.

Hope that helps.

I have tried that and it still will not work. Dont know if this helps but I finally got some texture some how some way. And this is what my map looks like. I can now paint with the brush when I click the Paint button under mini map but the map itself will not layer. Also, the mini map shows up colored in the editor and grap ingame.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this line that comes from a raw file. I used the MICRODEM and GEOCONTROL2 method for my landscape. Texture paint still not working FYI think Im gunna start a new map see how that goes. I think it mite be a problem with the map coming from a DEM file tho.

Or maybe the Top tilling/side tilling numbers are incorrect for my elevation ?

As for your last "problem", it looks like the ground is painted. It's just your minimap wasn't updated. Try this:

1) In editor, look at the right column for the minimap section, then click on "show". The minimap will appear.
2) Close editor
3) Open the folder pr_edit/levels/MAPNAME/editor
4) Copy the file called "minimap.dds"
5) Go to pr_edit/levels/MAPNAME/hud/minimap and paste the file
6) Rename it "ingameMap.dds" (replace the one that's there if there is one)

Also, I know there is a steep learning curve for map making, but all of these answers and more can be found in the tutorials. Good luck and don't despair... it'll eventually seem second nature.

Isnt there a way you can paint the whole map with a layer, or do u have to use that damn brush for the whole 4km... This is what I get when I started over.

Not a good idea to make it read only, iirc the editor will crash if you make it read only then save the terrain in the editor. Make a backup copy of the file and just dont forget to fix it each time you pack the map.
