Are the rangefinders on scopes accurate?

Like for example the Dragunov PSO-1's rangefinder.

Some are, such as the SPG-9 and the Mk19 when zoomed in I believe, but not all... yet ;)

Haha! I hope that all scopes IRL are accurate...
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

I've actually been curious about this myself. It'd be nice as a soldier with the SVD or the AK-74 scope's rangefinders worked. Would be great if they did and allowed us as Squad Members to estimate range on targets without having to guess where they are on the map then guess the range via that.

It'd be easy to do, just measure how tall they are @ Xm, then adjust the lines to make it fit.

Although we can only do it dependant on view distance. They could make a test map with infinite view distance, then just sight it in from there.

1. Lead mark for firing at targets moving from left to right at a speed of approx. 15 km/h at a range of 200 meters
2. Point of aim at 200 meters range
3. Circular reticule (Interior diameter 1.75 m man size at 400 m range)
4. Lead mark for firing at targets moving from right to left at a speed of approx. 15 km/h at a range of 200 meters
5. Horizontal line to determine whether the weapon is canted from the horizontal
6. Point of aim for firing at approx. 400 meter range
7. Point of aim for firing at. 600 meter range
8. Point of aim for firing at. 800 meter range
9. Man size of 1.75 meters at range X (200, 400, 600, 800m)

Obviously, with reduced bullet drop in PR (iirc) the point of aim is always around the Point of Aim @ 200m.
Now to question if it would work if I tried to use this in game.

:D interesting i hadnt even understood what those were for untill you just explained it ... i dont imagine they are too accurate to the map sizes ... because it changed from 1 2 4 K maps . . .

also ... ive noticed that the range finder in granadeer kit is a bit off . . . or i am just not doing it correctly or getting the right ranges :S

You know that the SL's range marker (on the map, not the GLTD) can have up to a 25 meter innacuracy from the real thing, right?

Geez, thanks guys, and btw TomDakery, the aiming thing for 1. and 4. are in fact accurate, as I tried aiming like that when shooting at a moving target. For the Dragunov, you'd want to fire when the enemy is approximately 2 markers away from the chevron. (actually 1 marker, but human reflex and ping speed screws with it a little bit so fire 2, you'll hit).

But if this is what the developers are developing, than it'll be friggin awesome!!

I didn't get anything wrong, I copy pasted all of this from wikipedia, so anything wrong with it blame them.
