Western Maps on PR?
I love PR and all the current maps it has but you have to admit it does get a little repetitive fighting in the same regions, i.e Middle East, over and over again. Since the Battlefield 2 v1.5 patch the use of the resources from the Armored Fury expansion should allow the PR devs to create maps based in the USA or other western urban settings.
So basically, I would like to see who would be interested in seeing western urban, or even residential maps, like the highway map in Armored Fury, in PR.

If you'd like to see such a map, why not make one yourself?
If it's good enough I'm sure it'll be taken into PR.

Re: Western Maps on PR?
I personally would love to see maps based in western maps.
But the statics will have to be created from scratch rather than using the ones from expansion packs since most of them have light map issue if they've got any at all.
However, a battle waged in a western urban area would definitely be a much appreciated change from the same ol' same old and it would very much be worth it in the end.
NOTE: Let's not argue and get butt hurt over whether or not it's realistic or not. Just assume there isn't an overall plot since no realistic plot could fit US/UK/RU invading China, an united arab coalition army and so on and so forth

There isnt enough statics in that one pack apparently to make a full map.

Re: Western Maps on PR?
Well, unlike most of the Asian maps depicted in PR that are set in rural areas or poor cities that have many small, decentralized cityscapes, a map in Europe or the US would be different.
I mean, almost every major European and American city has some skyscrapers and large buildings in it, and creating those from scratch would be a helluva lot of work, and could cause some pretty low FPS in games.
That being said, I think it would be awesome to see.
We could do something sort of Cold War style, like a Russian armored advance into Frankfurt and Berlin, while the outnumbered Bundeswehr hastily assembles to meet them in an epic battle of T-80s and Leopards....
Who knows, maybe in PR2?

Re: Western Maps on PR?
There are some western maps in the making by community factions. I'm planning on making one myself as well. I think western maps will mostly be based on terrain, which is perfectly doable. The maps will have the statics it can use, but don't expect an entire urban area, we simply don't have enough statics that can be used in western areas.

I personally would love to see some Western maps. Maybe one going so far as a Chinese or Russian invasion of the West Coast of the US. That would be my dream map. Something based off of World in Conflict.

He means the Armored Fury expansion pack, where the US is invaded by China/MEC.

Re: Western Maps on PR?
I'd love to see a western map but It would need a lot of new statics, which will drasticaly increase PR's size and users with weaker or normal PCs will get low FPS just as it happens now in Silent Eagle's village for some computers.

Don't forget the Nicaraguan Sandinistas coming up through Mexico to attack the US. Or use the concept of Red Dawn: USA as the insurgent sideSidewinder Zulu wrote:We could do something sort of Cold War style, like a Russian armored advance into Frankfurt and Berlin, while the outnumbered Bundeswehr hastily assembles to meet them in an epic battle of T-80s and Leopards....![]()

Red Dawn was the first thing that came to mind for me too. Eliminate the need to skyscrapers and dense urban settings by setting it in rural USA. Defend the homefront!Just_A_Thought wrote:Don't forget the Nicaraguan Sandinistas coming up through Mexico to attack the US. Or use the concept of Red Dawn: USA as the insurgent side![]()

Re: Western Maps on PR?
i would LOVE it!!!
its exactly the thing i thought about yesterday. I thought, all PR maps as tehy are now dont seem realistic to me (i know they are), but its just that i cant identify myself with any role in those maps.
Look at the map "Hell's Highway" of PoE2. THIS in a bigger scale with more and bigger villages would be awesome. and the other maps of this mod (the older ones, not the USMC maps) are very nice too.
I play very much Lock On FC2 and I thought about making a map which is placed in Georgia/South-west Russia. Not like Mestia or Kozelsk, those maps are unrealistic (imo), because the area, especially around georgia is not at all only abandoned woods with old 1950's bunkers etc. there are big cities, small towns and very very much agriculturally used space.
and from FC2 i know that combined armed battles can be f*cking awesome!

Re: Western Maps on PR?
FYI, there was a city map released for BF2 several years ago. I think it was called URBAN...something and it had a large city and one giant enterable skyscraper.
Also, what about Armored Fury addon? See how nicely DICE avoided making skyscrapers? Anyway BF2142 engine would be much better suited for this because it has those nice glimp effects on windows.
From experience Europe isn't exactly crawling with skyscrapers, although I haven't been everywhere.....yet.Sidewinder Zulu wrote:Well, unlike most of the Asian maps depicted in PR that are set in rural areas or poor cities that have many small, decentralized cityscapes, a map in Europe or the US would be different.

Re: Western Maps on PR?
Yeah, but seriously, if someone invaded Europe or the United States, would they really go after the rural farmland and towns?Jonathan_Archer_nx01 wrote: Also, what about Armored Fury addon? See how nicely DICE avoided making skyscrapers?
Their first objective would be to capture the command and control centers, military headquarters, and civic government buildings.
In other words, cities.
However, BF2 did do a nice trick with the map set in the US in Maryland, where they said the American armored units were trying to break through the MEC to relieve Washington DC, which was under seige.
So maybe a map set in rural America or Europe where the Blufor is trying to defend one of their cities, like on the outskirts of Paris or Los Angeles or something.
A map set in the Mojave Desert would be pretty cool.

I'd like to see this kind of map but the buildings that are used look third world and wouldn't look authentic in the U.S. Maybe ArmA2 PR mod is the best route for western maps/bldgs.

and jsut because of this, every PR map looks unrealistic.DDS wrote: but the buildings that are used look third world
i always get the feeling of fighting in the 1950's or what. I you look at wanda shan, the village looks like 200 years ago...

Re: Western Maps on PR?
well, we could always make it about oil. set on the gulf coast, rural lousiana or something. but to make it really look good, we need all new US statics.
edit: actually, Road Rage wasnt all that unrealistic. the Eisenhower Intersate System was designed for military use, so that supplies could be easily moved from place to place. control a major interchange and you control all the goods coming to and going from that area.
