[0957D] INS AA Missile Destroys Cache

Post by Dougalachi »

Description:
I was playing on Karbala as insurgent with the AA kit (SA-7) when I got a lock on the Kiowa. I waited for the lock tone, and then fired the missile right at the chopper, which was about 100-200m away from me, hovering. Instead of hitting the chopper, after lock and launch, the missile immediately curved off to my right, flying through several buildings, and destroyed the cache we were defending. I'm writing this as I'm waiting for my spawn penalty to expire. A fix for this would be great.

Steps to reproduce:
I don't think this happens very often, so recreating it would be difficult, but I'll give it a go. Using the INS AA kit within about ~300m from the cache, lock onto a helo, fire, and blow up your own teams cache.

Tested/Occured On:
-=RuleZ=- Karbala (layer with 2 Kiowas, one with MG/Rockets and one with only rockets) 0.957D

No screenshots to offer as it happened instantaneously.

how long where you standing still when you fired the missile? It seems like you didn't wait for your deviation to settle down.

AA missles do it all the time regardless of deviation, sometimes even with a solid lock... :-(

But back on topic, its interesting to know that AA missile damage to caches remain unchanged from the previous version... very interesting indeed...

Although i still think my chances are better with firing 2 HAT rounds into it from a safe distance rather than a suicide launch run with a randomized projectile :? ??:

Works fine for me. Missile hits choppet or flares if fired properly.

I have observed weird AA missile behavior versus Kiowa as well. Not so spectacular, but still after lock and no flares dropped missile went crazy and flew somewhere (and yes I know how to use AA :P ). I will try to investigate it. :)

@ Killer: I waited in a stationary position for about 4 seconds.

@L4gi: This doesn't happen every time someone fires an AA missile at the Kiowa, or at a chopper in general, that is why I said so in the "steps to reproduce" section. I'm not sure how exactly to reproduce the bug.

Yikes, I just watched a demofile of the incident (download here) and it seems the missile didn't directly hit the cache. You we're right next to a building with fire coming out of the top floor and the missile went to that fire instead of the Kiowa. The missile then flew into a building close to the cache and that set the cache on fire. There was however still quite some distance and concrete between the impact zone of the AA missle and the cache so that might need some checking out. Just check out the demo. ;)

Thanks for the link, I checked it out myself and agree with you. Definitely something wrong with AA missiles taking out caches still.
