The return of Desert Rats'

I have search in the list, and its not there. And it dosent said they arent accepting map suggest. So here we go, lets bring desert rats to 0.95, with a few tweak ( like reducing the size of the airport... ). Why ? well D.R. for those who ever play on it is extremely violent, vehicle oriented, awesome distance view map. I'm not a mapper at all, but i dont think it will take that long to just update the map and release it in a map pack. Desert Rats combine with the new feature could be an awesome AAS, Skirmish, Tournament map. It will also give an alternative to (conventional) Kashan, its allready pretty much done, only need to update the vehicle on it.

you do know that DR is just Kashan with a few minor tweaks, with its biggest tweak to the map itself being its huge view distance?

yes, thats why i want it back :D , you have to admit that vehicle battle with that huge view distance its like having the best of all world in PR ( for vehicle warfare obviously ) :D

Its better than kashan but it fails in PR because all the projectile max ranges are weird.

well longer VDs are always better, providing you dont lag out to **** on them which with the performance problems we have currently in PR, increasing VD isn't the first thing on our agenda :p

Ah yeah, I agree, well at least kashan gives almost no problem. Though I was refering more to the porblems faced in the tournament battle. The hellfires only reached half view distance, while the tank rounds reached across the map and all sorts of other things.

If somehow there could be like a few maps that can handle these distances with altered asset codes so that the ranges made sense the combat would be epic.

Ye, I can remember that one in the event game and if we where able to increase the VD on maps, or even just one map then assets would be modified accordingly (if even just cloned assets with new code just for that map) but right now, optimization is the main thing on our list :)

If you modify the weapon ranges to reach 2km, wouldn't the combat be just the same as on 1km VD, but even further apart?
I'd personally prefer a 'see further than you can shoot' map like Op Archer used to be during when there were no APCs on it.


On the mapping side, having a 4km map that features GB vs. MEC won't hurt, it would be best to redo it from scratch, but the whole 'Kashan clone' would hang over it heavily.

Yeah, giving propre range on proper vehicle will also increase the challenge and the realism imo, lets take it this way, Hellfire will be able to go further than a tank round, making it able to simulate the "long range engagement" on a scall that you would see in a real war.

Yeah, totaly agree, i love the small maps you know, but honestly Kashan is my favorite cause its the biggest map played... no matter the faction you know, i would love to see CF vs MEC, GER vs MEC etc etc :D It just suck that i dont know how to make a map xD
