I believe it depends on what kind of person you are.

If you are relatively inexperienced and do a lot of missing then 5.56 is for you. Because if you miss it's no big deal and it's easy to line you sights back up again. But 7.62 it's harder and takes longer to get your aim back in turn you'll end up missing even more.

If you are experienced and hardly ever miss a shot. Then 7.62 is for you. Because with 5.56 you'll start complaining about how many shot it takes to drop a target. The low recoil is nice. But the 7.62 will give you the stopping power you need and the extra recoil wouldn't really matter because you know how to take it and hardly ever miss anyway.

So it just comes down to experience.
Then of course this just my opinion.
I'm not implying the 5.56 is a noob's round or anything.
It can be very deadly as well when used in the right hands.
It's just with a skilled marksman 7.62 can be very deadly but 5.56 it will limit his abilities.

Well, I find that the 5.56's low recoil might actually help you get a headshot on CQB environments.
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

Are headshots really necessary in PR?
One head shot = kill
2 body shots = kill

To get a head shot you need to stop - aim - find that head - and then fire
That takes ages and it would be far for effective if you just did a 3 or 4 round spray and get a few body shots.

Which, btw, will down someone if 3/4 of those shots hit with a 5.56 and registers.
I prefer the 5.56 for accuracy, and the reason I seem to make more shots with it (maybe because of less recoil).

One solid hit from any caliber weapon will kill you. And don't argue it as I know if I said "Would you want to get shot with a .22LR?" you will say no.
Yeah, but you must admit that 7.62mm have a little bigger punch than .22LR :P

So can we conclude that 5.56 is better for assaulting positions.
While 7.62 is better for defending?

Bigger is always better. I like the larger calibre ones because you don;t have to shoot them 3-zillion times to kill them - You get some job satisfaction.

the real difference is weight, carrying a battle load of 7.62 is apparently not very pleasant.

I was in the Danish Army some years ago and we used the C7A1 assault rifle for standard infantry. Before 1995 we used the G3 and I tried both weapons. While the G3 is a hell of alot more fun to shoot with at the shooting range, because of the power and recoil I would still defenitly prefer the C7A1 with 5.56 ammo in combat. It's so much easier to use and less "clumsy". The same goes when playing PR.

Doesnt matter really. None of those calibers can make the enemy dead enough. They can still be healed by a medic with magic epinen.

I prefer anything large filled with explosives.

Actually it was my fault. I was doing a search for something and came across this thread so i thought "why not vote"? I didnt think it would reset it to page 1, so now we have a necro thread on the front page.
