Re: Radio operator?
1+ on this. However there is a darkside. IF this guy wouldnt have a shovel, there would be 3 ppl in a sq w/o a shovel. And i dont like it. So even if IRL he didnt have a shovel, i would give it to him.drkstr wrote:Simple solution:
1. Create a limited RTO kit (same as rifleman but no ammo or shovel)
2. Take the radio from the current officer kit and give it to the RTO
3. The RTO now has to do everything the SL used to do with the radio (presumably under SL orders)
It's not "ideal" like some of the ideas listed, but it does create an RTO class with just a simple kit rearrangement.
Should be easy enough, no?
But how to discourage ppl from having this kit as a SL? I dont know.
Regarding mumble, it would be nice to have mumble commanders channel occupated with only comm and RTOs
Here take my 0.02$

Re: Radio operator?
Radio operator is good for the squad leader that does not of yet know how to build assets.

Re: Radio operator?
That the SL has a radio seems fine to me, no reason making it too complicated.

Re: Radio operator?
I think the radio operator should defiantly have a shovel, but he should not be the one setting the assets. The radio operator should have some responsibility, but taking the asset placement out of the SL's hands could spell bad news...

Re: Radio operator?
I like the basis for the idea, primarily as the Anti-Personnel rifleman never gets used (unfortunately), would suggest it has all the radio and soflam equipment as per a SL, allowing for a great fireteam leader position when the squad splits into two elements, as well as doubling as FAC/designator when the SL has their attention elsewhere.

Re: Radio operator?
I like the radio operator idea for strategical CAS/Arty markers. But apart from that, what other use can he possibly have?
A squad is never left in the dark in PR because we can simply type down where we're being attacked from. Grid, keypad, etc. So practically in-game, he's not very useful, is he?
This idea will never bring dynamism in comms unless it's hardcoded.

Re: Radio operator?
I don't know if this is possible as a separate kit, because the SL will still be able to talk Yo the commander, ultimately referring information to the rest of the team. Also, inter-squad voip is impossible, as is anyone but the commander or SL place markers.
