Creating a Dedicated Server to play in lan!
Hello guys!
So i will explain to you guys what i want to do!
I'have 2 lan houses conected in the same network in my city i have pr instaled in all machines and thats a total of 65 machines! (ye i'know bf2 only suport 64 LOL) i'want to use my server (and i mean the lan server the computer where you control the other machines) to create a dedicated server so we all can play together without the need of one of the players having to create the game!
so if there is any kind of tutorials out there that will come in handy!
guys hope you can help-me becouse this next wekend i'am planing on having a night of pr here and i already have 60 players confirmed just waiting for the DS!
And yes i do realise will be easyer and more satisfying to play online with you guys but think about it we all play together every day and we love pr but not all of us have good internet Connection, so guys any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance...
Cheers...

Have you ever set up a BF2 server before? for vBF" on LAN or internet and the same for any other BF2 mod? I take it you haven't but just asking so I can get a gauge of your understanding of BF2 servers.

Re: Creating a Dedicated Server to play in lan!
I think its fairly easy, actually.
1st: Tell everyone to download Hamachi.
2nd: Create a new network on Hamachi.
3rd: Give them the network-ID and password, so they can connect to your network.
4th: As they have connected to your Hamachi-network, they can join you local server.
5th: Create a local server. To do this, simply open PR, go to Deployment -> Create Local. Choose the maplist, tickets, etc.
6th: They shall connect with the same IP and PORT as shown on Hamachi. Make sure they connect when you have started the server. (When you are loading the first map in your maplist/are ingame)
You may now have an awesome evening with your friends, playing Project Reality together.
EDIT: Okay. I see that I screwed up. It sais that you are going to play on the same network. Then forget about Hamachi. Just join with the IP and PORT.

we are already connected via a wireless network! thats how the lan house works so everybody in one or the other (they are a few miles away from each other) can play together!saXoni wrote:I think its fairly easy, actually.

Yes, I realised that as I read the post one more time. But if you want to set up your own server, dont read the instructions about hamachi.

Re: Creating a Dedicated Server to play in lan!
hummm, there isn't any simple way of doing it. The simplest way is to just install the BF2 client (although you can just install the dedicated version) and PR clients (if you install BF2 dedicated, make sure you redirect the installer to install PR into the right dir) onto the server box and then use the BF2serverlauncher.exe to run the server, and in the map list settings add PR as the mod and add PR maps to it.
The problem with this thou is you can not run insurgency maps, only AAS and coop maps.
The more complicated way would take a lot of text so ehh, if you need to know, I think I'll let someone else explain if they can hehe

Re: Creating a Dedicated Server to play in lan!
First there is no need to use Hamachi on a LAN game, all Hamachi dose is crate a "fake LAN" over the internet, where there is totally no point to do that if your already on a real LAN, you will just get a larger ping etc...saXoni wrote:So my way wont work, Rhino?
Also going down the "Crate Local" rout is ok, but not the best rout and not what Jack here wants to do, since he has 65 PCs, one of which is a server and if he has the 65th PC running the server, the other 64 can join that and then the 65th PC only has to concentrate on running the game, not also playing it at the same time which when you have a 64p server with lots of python work etc going on in the background, you will lag, and also trying to render/play the game, everyone is going to lag epically the host, unless the PC is super fast.
