Slow login.
Hey guys.
I have realized that logging on my account as I start PR takes longer and longer time for everytime I log in.
I wonder if anyone else have this problem, and if there is any way to make it go faster. I have tried to make myself a new account, and yes, it did work, but only for a couple of weeks. Its just as slow as it was in the beginning again.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: Im not quite sure if I posted this thread in the right place. Maybe I should've started it in PR suggestions, but I could only find posts that was related to the game itself.

Don't worry its normal. I remember reading in some other thread not too long ago about deleting the files in your users cache folder.

Re: Slow login.
You can go into \Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\000X(where x is the folder your account is in) and open up General.con with notepad.
Then if you scroll down to the bottom of the file, you should find a bunch of these;
Then just delete all of those, except any favourites you'd like to save. The fever of these you have, the faster it logs in.
Also, you can set the file to be read-only and the game won't be able to save any more of these, but at the same time it wont be able to save some settings, so I don't recommend it.
Then if you scroll down to the bottom of the file, you should find a bunch of these;
Code: Select all
GeneralSettings.addFavouriteServer "1.2.3.4" 29900 "Server Name"
GeneralSettings.addFavouriteServer "1.2.3.4" 29900 "Server Name"
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "1.2.3.4" 29900 "Server Name"
GeneralSettings.addServerHistory "1.2.3.4" 29900 "Server Name"Also, you can set the file to be read-only and the game won't be able to save any more of these, but at the same time it wont be able to save some settings, so I don't recommend it.

- start PR
- click on "deployment"
- click on "favorites"
- delete all of them (at least those entries which are coloured red or have super high pings)
- finished
some entries in the favorites sometimes slow down the log in time.
if im wrong, throw stones at me

Re: Slow login.
Yeah the login takes ages as you are trying to ping all the servers in your favourites and ping all the red servers in there that take ages to respond.

Re: Slow login.
I remember I used to have this problem, It may be due to the amount of accounts saved there (i had 8..) Although im not 100% sure about that, as I only noticed it speed up(dramatically, 5 seconds log in now from 1min lol) when i did a re-format.

If you don't care about "favourite servers" (like me), just make the file "general.con" read-only. Then you get instant logins every time

Re: Slow login.
to fix this...
open advanced properties of your network adapter (of which has your internet connection)
right click your ip/4 protocol and properties, then go advanced.
Under where it says 'metric' make sure it is not set auto, set it to something like 9000
this will incrase ping on servers also

Re: Slow login.
I find the longer I play the more favorite servers I get. I don't even add them which is the strange part. But as Dune said, get rid of those and you'll get an instant login. It's a long and painful process but well worth it.

Yeah, as soon as you join a server, it gets added to the "favourites". It's more like a history of servers you've played on, not exactly favourites

AfterDune, Zrix said something about not being able to save some settings. What kind of settings can't you save?
And where do I turn on "read only"?

Holy Moly! I just ... Cant believe it! Woaaah, so fast!
Thank you sooo much!
Unbelievable! This has to go to the official FAQ!
Well stuff like "HUD TRANSPARENCY" or "how the map rotates when you move". Such stuff.
I just made it read only and I guess I will have no troubles whatsoever.

I think it's the "options/game" settings. Nothing important for PR.saXoni wrote:AfterDune, Zrix said something about not being able to save some settings. What kind of settings can't you save?

Re: Slow login.
Oh sorry, I missed that...
Rightclick the file and go to properties. Then you should have options like "make file hidden" or "make file not-writable/read only".
Look at screenshot.

but if you save you settings then you make it read only, do your settings get saved?Zrix wrote:You can go into \Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\000X(where x is the folder your account is in) and open up General.con with notepad.

Re: Slow login.
How often do you change any settings besides audio/video/controls, which are NOT affected by setting the general.con to read-only?
Pretty much never, I never even looked at the "game" options...
Stuff like server filter gets saved in there but when do you use a server filter setting in PR? Usually we just click "update server list" and type in TG or PRTA into the name filter.
Have no worries, it's ok.
As soon as PR starts behaving funny you should double check the files, but I doubt that anything will happen.
