"Hello" from another new player

Post by AtlantisThief »

I wanted to say "Hello" to everyone (like topic title says).
I'm 19 years old, living in germany. I like to play games, and love to play it very team-oriented.

I found this game yesterday and was reading a bit around in the forums and got really interested in playing this mod. Since it seems that this mod is a lot into community (and communication and so on), i wanted to make a good start by greeting everyone.

Since i am downloading still at the moment, i wanted to ask about the PRmumble.
I have the regular mumble installed on my computer but would also like to use the positional sound from it for PR.
Now the questions:
Do i really have to deinstall my old Mumble and use the PRmumble?
Is it possible to install a file or addon for mumble for this "PRmumble"?
Do people even use mumble, or stick with the ingame VOIP or TS2/3?

I hope you can answer these questions and help me out at the beginning (if you recognize me on a server). Before anyone mention it, i have already read the PR Manual ;)

Welcome.

The PR version of mumble is specially designed to work best in the game. Many settings have been pre-set to make it easier for the general public. The server for PR is default.

The PR server (where you can connect to PR game channels) only accepts PR Mumble clients. It will not accept the normal one. So if you already use the normal Mumble for other reasons and can't uninstall it, you can use the in-game VoIP. If you have TS3 or Ventrillo, you can keep your eye out for servers that also use them.

Now that you read the manual, do a few coop-server games to get the feel, test out vehicles, & get familiar with weapons and maps.

Good luck.

hi,

regarding mumble/your questions:
first of all, a pretty awesome mumble guide: Mumble Guide - PR Team Work

i dont think you have to deinstall your other mumble version, had both running (win xp 32) for quite some time.

there are quite a lot servers providing mumble right now, but most of the time there arent 100% mumblers. theres only one server enforcing mumble use by kicking non mumblers and that is "pr teamwork alliance" (PR Team Work)

general stuff:
other voice programs are scarcely used and then only clan internal (i dont think there arent any public server.
if you want to join a mostly german server, you prolly should go coffeeshop.
if you have any small questions, you should ALWAYS ask your squad/in chat (there are haters, but most people are nice in general) and if there are major problems ask them here in the forums (in the right section of course).

hope i could help

regards,
skull

Yup, I had both of them installed without any problem. So you don't have to uninstall newest Mumble in order to get PR one.

Welcome to PR :)

There are a number of servers that use mumble to varying degrees, the foremost amongst them being Tactical Gamer and and as Skull pointed out PR Teamwork Alliance (PRTA currently being the only server that enforces mumble.)

I can confirm what the others say about using two mumbles: I currently also have both installed, it will work.

Tactical Gamer and PRTA are the servers where you are most likely to find mumblers on (both servers in english; TG in the states, PRTA in the kingdom) - as the others already said.

So, welcome to the community. It's great to see that you intend to use mumble right from the start, it will be of great use to you on the right servers :)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or browse through the other recent threads of new guys :)

Also, please read the manual carefully, no matter whether or not you have played BF2 before, it'll spare you some confusion I hope.

Once again thanks for the warm welcome of you guys. Thanks for the answers about the mumble, but in the meantime i found it out already.
Also cool to see that there also some germans out there. Since PRTA is located in Europe, i will check it out.

I also had my first 10 minutes on a coop server already, awesome mod, but hard to learn, i didnt had the chance of testing vehicles yet, since they are always taken by other players.

Just be careful on online servers that are not in co-op mode: Vehicles will there be assigned to specific squads, and the players using them are normally more experienced than the average infantryman (especially regarding armored transport and aircraft).

Welcome to PR.
If you are a Team Player then you sure will be loved soon.
Just some general tips:
1. Before going to a 'Real' server go to a COOP one and practice the vehicles and weapons there.
2. Do not fly a chopper or Jet unless you had some Intense training to do so ( I practiced from PR v0.75 top 0.8 until I started flying in real servers.
3. When you are aiming with a weapon you have to wait 4 full seconds without moving to get the Maximum accuracy, If you moved a little you had to wait just a second, If you move a lot you have to wait depending on how much you moved.
4. Please Do NOT get the Sniper kit in an Infantry squad.
5. Follow your Squad Leader orders.
6. This is the most important tip HAVE FUN! do NOT care for Lamers and Flamers!

Good Luck!

You don't need to uninstall mumble to use PRmumble 0.5 (you can run both at the same time if you want to, and have different keys setup for each version).
No add-on possible, nor needed.
Mumble is used a lot on some PR-servers, others don't use mumble. But we all have one mumble severer, so it's easy to find out what pr-server you want to join. mumble is used in addition to vbf2 voip. Force centering is not popular when there is a lot of people in the channel, and therefor it can not replace vbf2 voip.

Hope you like PR and happy mumbling.

For vehicles load start a deployed/coop LAN server and use them there all on your own. :D

Welcome to the fantastic world of PR, your journey begins on the real servers.

Ok, i thought this will be fixed after restarting my computer after installation:
When i start PR with the shortcut on desktop, i get asked "run as ...?" I have only the option me (my comp name) and a box to make a tick or not. I have Win XP SP3, and never saw this before. I just have to uncheck the box and the game starts, if i do not so, i get some a error with "0x006ac056".
Is there a way to take that away? I can start it like that, but would like to start it without.

And for god's sake read and if asked confirm it cuz i always tell the recruits to read the manual first [most of them not][till 0.91 i didnt too :) ] and most people dont even want to help you if you havnt read the manual. :)

About the run problem, try changing your safety settings or something like that

Ok after some rounds in coop mode, i made my first try to play on real multiplayer :)
Result: No clue what to do, i followed my squad leader a long time, but it seems that he was also clueless.
At the end i was just enjoying the view i had from a mountain, until i get shot by some mortar.
Not sure if they used mumble in squad, but VOIP wasnt used, aswell as after asking the SL what he is doing, i did not got any response. I hope the next few games will be lead by some more cooperative SL and teams.

Quick tip here: be sure to say hi to your squad leader, ask him what he needs you to do in case it's not obvious. If you get no response, as was the case for you, find a different squad. So as a rule of the thumb - if the squad leader doesn't talk, even when spoken to, it's a **** squad.

+ 1

Also ask "what's the plan squad leader?" if he's a shy person and is not speaking at all. If he doesn't answer you now, he's not a squad leader - just a guy who made a squad. And you shouldn't stick to those kind of people, believe me. Just leave the squad and try joining squads named "INF", "VOIP INF", "MUMBLE INF", etc. - there's usually teamwork oriented people there.

Ok will try it out today at another game.

EDIT: I have a new question: What is "Resuscitate" for? (Medic 2nd Slot). I tried to revive a lying down played, but it didnt worked, then i switched to the Epi....(forgot the name) and he stood up. After that i used the medipack to heal, since in the manual it says the revived only have 9% hp left at revive.
