[Vehicle] T-34/85 for the Militia
I think we all know this tank: the classic Soviet T-34 with an improved 85mm gun. For those who don't...
T-34 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anyway, the idea is to give the militia a sort of light tank comparable to the existing Scimitar (not a light tank, but fairly comparable) and AMX-10 RC (coming out with the French Forces) vehicles capable of fighting everything up to and including an Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The tank would compliment the new BMP-1 nicely in combat, too.
The immediate thought is, of course, old, and of indeed it is. However, the vehicle saw combat in relatively decent numbers as recently as 1997, in Bosnia. There are numerous sources verifying this, including this one - http://www.achtungpanzer.com/serbian-t-3485.htm, and there undoubtably remain dozens of the once-ubiquitous vehicles tucked away in warehouses and old communist backwaters, awaiting a return to their former glory.
Resuggestion search yielded no results.

Re: [Vehicle] T-34/85 for the Militia
The developers rarely accept vehicles or equipments suggestions because they have military advisors...
oh, and this :
from AAS thread...
Good suggestion btw
oh, and this :
We are not accepting equipment suggestions (this includes everything: weapons, gear and vehicles) for any factions for which we have an MA or knowledgeable people within the team.
This includes both US factions, the British, the IDF, the PLA, the Canadian, the Militia, the German, the Hamas, the MEC, the Insurgent, the Taliban and the Russians.

Oh, jeez, I didn't realize they'd changed the *** - a week ago it said we could do MEC/Militia suggestions.
Big sorry.

Re: [Vehicle] T-34/85 for the Militia
as a small addition and in the interest of variety i reckon it'd be good, as long as there aren't loads of them on a map.
how much damage would a 30mm AP round from a Warrior/Scimi do to one of them though?

Well, they have about 50mm of armor, but because the armor is sloped it was equivalent to about 80mm.
I guess they would be 30mm proof, unless the rounds are DU or tungsten/wolfram, cause the A10 has a 30mm gun and it is claimed to pierce up to 95mm of armor grade steel.
I would guess that the 30mms can pierce its armor, at least side/rear armor, so it would suck a lot in a direct fight, since the warrior has good armor. Another thing:
Since we have the BMP-1, we don't really need a T34. Why?
The BMP1 has a high caliber gun, with HE and HEAT capabilities.
The BMP1 has fairly good armor, even though it is not 30mm proof.
The BMP1 has TOW, so better capabilities against heavy armor.
The BMP1 has speed, unlike the T34 which is very loud and fairly slow compared to other vehicles.
The T34 would look cool, but it would require a lot of 3D work and optimization only to get something that should be taken out by an AT4 with one shot,or by anything armored in, in 15sec or less. Also, the T34s 85mm gun would be quite useless against armor, even scimy/warrior because of ERA.

Don't Militia have a tank? On one of the layers of Kozelsk?

Yup it's one of the Alt layouts, the T-62 I believe (although I can't remember if it's a painted up T-55 or was a T-62 to begin with or if we're to pretend it is a T-55 because they were more numerous, it's something like that). Ochamchira and Dragon Fly also have tanks for the militia tanks.Ford_Jam wrote:Don't Militia have a tank? On one of the layers of Kozelsk?
EDIT: No it looks like it is a T-62 in game after all as the bore evacuator is in the right place.

Pretty much what Bazul said I suppose: too much work for an asset that probably won't be used that commonly, as well as the upcoming BMP1 being able to fullfill the role of 'light tank' if needed.

The BMP-1 and the T-62/T-64 tanks are more than enough. A T-34/85 in PR would just be an exercise in frustration.

Re: [Vehicle] T-34/85 for the Militia
My opinion -
It's no needed, cuz they have BMP-1,that looks been nice as Light tank role.
Actually - not so much difference:BMP-1 got 73mm recoilless rifle(SPG like),T-34 - 76mm cannon(Not so much difference in weapon + BMP got ATGM),BMP got ~19mm steel armor,T34 - 60mm(Actually both can be destroyed by 30mm cannon or 1 LAT rocket)
I think not so much needed to add this time ingame, but if make that - they can be make more fun on russian community on maps, where fighting BLUFOR vs Militia

This T-34/85 has an 85mm cannon, and it's armor is about 90mm maximum with sloping. It can easily resist 30mm rounds while easily penetrating and destroying light armored vehicles like the Scimitar or BMP-2.samogon100500 wrote:My opinion -

Oh my bad they got 85mm cannon.Excavus wrote:This T-34/85 has an 85mm cannon, and it's armor is about 90mm maximum with sloping. It can easily resist 30mm rounds while easily penetrating and destroying light armored vehicles like the Scimitar or BMP-2.
Anyway - 30mm cannon or LAT can be easy destroy that.BMP1 got 300-400мм AT rounds for example and can be easy kill same vehicles.

This is why the Militia dont have m1a2 and MEC dont wear multicamDev1200 wrote:I like how, even though the MEC and Militia are made up factions, but they have MA's / "knowledgeable people" lol =P
Seriously, I like more a sort of pattern for assets distribution over a somewhat partymix faction
On topic:
Well, I'll finish my post of yesterday, that looked somehow negative (was pretty late sorry...)
I really like the idea, but wish role/purpose this vehicle will perform? Is it be a uber soft skin hunter or should it be able to let's soldiers ride the hull for a non-reliable alternative transport?
Like said before, if it spread accordingly over the levels in specific layer (eg: AAS 32), I dont see or think of any problems. Well the BMP-1 will likely take this role, but I doubt it will be more armored and powerful than a T-34/85... Plus, it would be a weaker alternative for MBT, that would lovely fit on smaller map or alternative layout...
Looking forward to this
(sorry for my english)

30mm rounds can penetrate the sides and rear. Even if they don't actually penetrate the front, it would be as it was said, an exercise of frustration. Also, any LAT from 1943 onwards would be able to penetrate the T34s armor. Also, it would be a really slow and loud vehicle, which could not even give chase to the Scimitars and Warriors, and it would be just a ticket loss when the Challanger2 will sneak up to it because of its uber loud engine.
