Low FPS

Post by suolaaja1325 »

I noticed what cause major FPS drops. Grass and trees are waving because of "wind" and I think that cause most of the fps drops. Is there any way to stop movements of plants?

It was like that before, nothing to worry. Maybe lower your gfx?

The "wind" effect is found in all BF2 under/overgrowth, it's done by moving the planes that the textures you're seeing are applied to. It's automatically applied to objects placed as UG/OG, and shouldn't be very hardware intensive. Much more intensive is rendering the planes of the UG/OG, though they're typically fairly low poly.

I think the FPS drop is due to BF2 engine freaking out because of new content. its like "humm 0.95 change log.... BLAHGAGJAGGAAAAHHHHHHHHHH. mind blown"

I can't find the root of the issue.

It's definitely not system related, I lag @ 15-20fps when the servers fill up, but all 4 cores on my Q9650 are at 5-25% usage, overclocked at 4.05Ghz or on stock clocks.

Both of my 9800GTX's are at @ 5-10% usage.

I'm guessing it is just the lack of optimization with the new features. However, I recently had to d/c from a muttrah server because I dropped to 5 fps when flying over the city in the cobra...

is 25 low enough to stop playin' ?

On urban maps i get 14 - fps when lucky.

I have a virtually identical system (although with Vista, an Intel CPU and a 512mb 9800GTX+) and I can run PR on all high...

Moving this to PR:BF2 Support and changing the title.

Something isn't right there. On my old computer I can play PR 0.95 on high settings.

Old PC Sys:
Win XP (32 bit), SP 3
Intel Pentium IV, Dual-Core 2.4 GHz
2048 MB DDR2-RAM
DirectX 9.0c
nVidia GeForce 9600 GTX Plus (512 MB)

And PR 0.95 works perfectly on high settings!!

Maybe you have a complication with Windows 7? I really don't know.

Best regards

After a few weeks of testing:

If you have multiple monitors, do not Alt-Tab. Windows will run your second monitor in aero mode, hitting your fps.

I also tried disabling a core to see if it is a thread issue. Hasn't helped.

Maybe the problem is windows 7 related, considering jigsaw can run on high with just one GTX+.

Ive been getting fps below 20 some times hitting the low teens with my gfx set to normal and view distance set to 90% plus low AA and AF. Here's my system spec below. My system has no spyware or viruses on it plus it gets defragged nearly every day and the HD is more than half empty.

Windows XP pro.
Core 2 Duo 6700 (stock)
Gigabyte GTX 460 (latest Drivers)
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR
Western Digital Black 600 gig HD
PSU 400 Watt.

I've been having low fps after the 095 release too. When in a full server looking into the cities/crowded places my fps drops to 15~20. What seems strange to me is that even on maps that used to run on high fps in the previous version, like Fools Road, my fps has decreased a lot.

Windows XP Pro x64 Serv. Pack 2
AMD Phennom 9850 Quad Core
Corsair XMS2 DDR2 3 GB
Radeon HD 3850

The only time I get really low FPS is when I quickly turn or whenever I play on Burning Sands.

Burning Sands is essentially unplayable to me. Is that more of a problem with the game or my computer?

It from your Video Card, turn down your settings....
Or look into a better Card.

and see if you cant upgrade 1 more GB or RAM....PR runs good on 4.

I figure this thread is sufficently related to my problem - dont think I need to open another one...

I experience FPS-drops whenever I look in the direction of masses of grass while using binoculars or scopes.

Is this a known problem and is there any way to solve it?

Thanks for your help!

If your using AA
Try turning it off, or switching higher/lower
AE: If your running AA@4 bump it to 8 or 2.

PS I found a while back after messing with my settings ( looking for the 'sweet spot') I was getting lag all the time. Resetting to the old values didn't fix it. I found setting everything in game to 'default' then clicking 'apply' followed by quitting game and restarting fixed it for me. ( your mileage may vary)

Good luck
