Project Reality 0.957 - Fails to launch properly

Post by jubjubj »

Hey,
I have had PR running on my PC loads before the recent update, but iv'e had alot of problems since then, and just when I thought I fixed them all, PR fails, without a reason this time.
Basically what happens when I run PR is the Project reality box pops up (the one that takes up only the centre of the screen) and the same kind of box for BF:2 pops up, after a second my screen goes black and re-adjusts (just like it does when I boot any other game) however after that, I just go back to my desktop, with no PR or BF:2 process or programs running.
I am using Windows XP Professional with SP 2.
And my computer has 2GB of Ram, and Intel Core Duo Processor and a Redeon X1950 Pro Graphics card.
Any help leading to the fixing of this glitch would be much appreciated,
Thanks.

Check your desktop shortcut for PR. make sure the 'target' window in pointing to the PR.exe that's inside BF2s folder.

Should look like this (usually) under Vista. (XP lose the (x86) )
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"

Your shortcut can do more. I use:
start +widescreen 1 +szx xxxx +szy xxxx +restart +playerName xxxx +playerPassword xxxx

Replace XXXX with your user name and password

Adding this string bypasses the startup video, logs you in and takes you directly to the server browser.
( don't forget to leave 1 space after pr.exe")

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +widescreen 1 +szx 1600 +szy 1200 +restart +playerName xxxx +playerPassword xxxx

Good luck
Welcome to PR
"Project reality, it's all about the teamwork."
"There's nothin' like a nice piece of hickory"

I play on TeamPlayersGaming where it's all about the teamwork.

Sadly no success, I don't think that's the issue anyway, even when I don't use a shortcut it fails, but thank you for trying, and thanks for the other info + tips!

Run PR in window mode, check for popup errors.

Nothing happens, it just opens, then closes seconds after.

Right click your PR shortcut, go to properties

Find 'Target'

After "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"

Add a space, than paste this,
+modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 0

Should look like this-
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 0

Best of luck,
Michael

Your directories may look different, due to Operating systems but, the concept is the same.

Edit: What happens when you run regular BF2 or other BF2 modifications?

Sadly this made no difference, and there was error box's or anything similar. There is seemingly no problem, but yet it still fails to work :S

What happens when you run BF2 & other battlefield 2 modifications? If that works fine, I'd try reinstalling Project Reality. I'd recommend using Torrents, for download ( less risk of file corruption ).

Make sure none of your 'security' programs, have blocked the 'pr.exe' process. I don't think that's it, but you never know. Test by quickly disabling your real time shield. I'd advice to disconnect from the internet, before doing that.

Strange, 'cus the same thing is happening to me atm. Which is kind of weird, since I've been playing without any problems the whole day.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I haven't fiddled with any settings or anything but suddenly PR won't load up.

I have the same problem as Web_cole and stiankir.

Since it magically got fixed for them I am just going to wait as well but this is really weird. I did not mess around with the setting either.
