Graphical errors + crashes

Post by NamajnaG »

Good day, Everyone.

Please excuse me if this was already posted in the past.

I'm having several graphical issues and crashes whilst playing, And its starting to annoy me a lot, So I'm posting here to see if anyone knows the cause.

Graphic errors :
Sometimes, I see black squares sticking out of polygons, Or black textures on the ground. I often see black ground all over. I have a few screenshots I took whilst playing.

Also, When I approach trees, They dissapear just out of a sudden. If I am far from the tree I will see it, But if I approach it, It will just dissapear.

There is supposed to be several trees in front of me, But I only see 4-5 of them.

I also don't see several buildings, Such as houses, Bunkers etc.
Note that this never happened on PR 0.917.

My video drivers are up to date, And I don't have any problems in any other game, Including BF2 Vanilla.

And about crashes, It always crashes about 10 minutes after joining a server. I just hear the Windows Error sound and it closes.

My specs are :

P5KPL-AM SE
Intel E7500 Dual-core 2.93GHz
4GB RAM DDR2
ATI 5670 HD 1GB

I already tried re-installing the mod, No success.
If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!

Sounds like corrupt cache files.
Run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files

Still no joy?

Manually trash your BF2 cache files.
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Hope it helps and good luck

Many thanks for your reply, However, The folder "mods" under Documents/Battlefield 2 does not exist.
Could it be located somewhere else?

Do a HDD search on 'Battlefield 2', if you see the directory, click on it.

Nope, I even searched only for "cache" on my C:/ drive and it found absolutely nothing related to BF2.

Should I do a fresh install of BF2 Vanilla?

Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Start PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (graphical issues gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

Too late, I've already reinstalled and I didn't delete my profiles when asked so all my settings are still there, And the game now works like a charm!
Thanks for your help, Much appreciated.
You guys have a great day now.
