Yeah, I agree! I'm very much disappointed that I haven't had the opportunity to play Dragon Fly or Wanda Shan yet! And I've only played half a round of Burning Sands! :(

Furthermore I really miss the glorious days of Iron Ridge and Yamalia!

You always support the community that runs the server and influence the map rotation by doing instead of crying.

I've played every map except for Iron Ridge, only played Kokan a handful of times. It isn't that popular unless you play on the CIA 24/7 Kokan one.

I, for one, am glad to see Iron Ridge and Dragonfly weighted down and dumped overboard.

Militia maps are hard to find in rotations with good reason. Burning Sands and Wanda Shan both have a reputation for being bad for server stability, and for reasons discussed in other threads, people have disdain for Qinling. Muttrah and Beruit are the only AAS city maps I can think of, and you can only do so much insurgency.

Silent Eagle is fantastic, but is being underdone to prolong it I think, so it doesn't get burnt out like Kashan
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Glad to see I'm not alone on this issue.

And how so? Am I supposed to just sit in an empty server for a few hours and wait for it to be populated (which might not even happen)? That's an extremely unrealistic expectation.

The problem is that PR seems to be at a low point in terms of player populations, especially for primetime North America. So when a few 24/7 servers (CIA Kokan and HOG Muttrah cone to mind) and a few servers with relatively limited rotations (TG, Hardcore, both which used to have better rotations) are the only ones populated and have decent PINGs, then it's difficult to find a server with other maps to play on. Yeah, sure you can protest by not joining those servers, but then who gets the raw end of the deal? You, because there are no other populated servers (and who likes to play PR alone...). It's a classic collective action problem.

No, join the community forums and post there/suggest maplists. If you want to see a map on a server, develop a maplist and add reasons why it should replace the current one.

+1
but...

its different for everybody. most maps last over two hours. what do you want dude?
most servers crash and they just redo the map-list. some maps conflict with the map thats playing next and server admins notice the trend so they avoid the ones that they know crash the server. some maps play better than others. and also there is the factor of the lead server admins liking some maps more than others.

When choosing maps a server admins first priority is to keep the server filled. So they put on the maps that people are going to join, the maps that are regarded as "popular" for whatever reason.

If a server has a steady and established population I'd say your more likely to find an interesting and diverse maplist.

ChizNizzle wrote:As i said, server licence should include this:

On the maplist, there must be all maps from one gamemode, in all 3 versions or insurgency (Skirmish is optional) and as many maps of other (secondary) gamemodes chosen by the server.

So if server is AAS only, it would include all AAS (including "insurgency" AAS, if not skirmish) maps with all versions, everything randomized.
If its Insurgency only, it would have all maps with insurgency mode.

If server is mixed, you have to chose a primary gamemode and follow one of the rules, then add the other stuff to mix in (not limited by numbers). Also maps cant be changed by setnext command to prevent exploit.

This means equalization of all servers and giving chance to everybody not just ones that have Muttrah and Kokan and whatnot. And with this it means that people wont go for servers with popular maps but rather servers with mumble and yay, then everybody starts using mumble and we are all happy.
Lol, good luck with that idea. I once petitioned to add a clause in the server license agreement to not allow racism, admin abuse, and a bunch of other no brainers. I was laughed off the forums because its 'unenforceable' or 'not the responsibility of the developers'.

I lol'ed a little when I read that response. Some people truly are the victims of their own circular reasoning.

Wanda Shan is possibly the *worst* map of all time. All badly modeled hills which kill the vehicles, and no space for infantry to conduct proper fights - it's a server killer, and I'm thankful for that.

Yes Sir, I can't stress how much a map change has been decided solely by this.

Yea, it's really the job of the DEV team to intervene in the day to day running of a server, kind of like how the USDA inspector makes sure you didn't under cook your meat or the FCC guy sits in on your webcam session with your significant other to make sure no offensive language occurs. One server's admin abuse is another server's SOP, and it's never someone else's responsibility to make sure you're not offended.

If you don't like the maplist, play somewhere else. No one else playing? Tough, guess you'll have to be part of the seeding elite.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

Hence why I posted this thread. Obviously there are quite a few people who would like to play other maps. And as I said, it's a collective action problem. Your solution will never work because it's not realistic to assume that enough players will willingly be part of this "seeding elite" at any given time, even if they do want more map variety. Plus, who honestly has the time to do that?

Ultimately, we're all subject to the admins of the populated servers. So yeah, you're right. We are in a situation of "tough luck," but that's why I made this thread to draw attention to the issue.

Its like music, yes i know im getting annoying with this PR to music comparison, but you can play rocknroll and have no money or be JB and have chicks and money at age 11.

24/7 and servers with top public maps are JB. Others play rocknroll, and I like rocknroll.

Yeah, servers shouldn't just play a bunch of maps that have the same vehicles, there should be a mix between, Inf, Inf + Mech, and Mech. Although, I'm not a fan of those maps where each team has 1 Inf squad and the rest vehicles but oh well, I think that would server everyone's interests the most, no?

You are on the wrong server. Sadly many players do not quite know how to approach 4 km maps. At some point squadleaders are left clueless and gameplay breaks down which is boring. However some degree of coordination is required to play those maps. If you want to play with random people, like on call of duty, you need a game like call of duty.

If you want to play a complex game you need to become a regular on one or 2 servers, so there is the appropriate ammount of coordination. Ultimately its not the map, its how people play it. If the game is a stalemate because both sides are trying their best to win, then its fun, if the game is a stalemate, because both sides have no idea who to dislodge the enemy, then its boring.

However they arent the most exciting maps for infantery players. They have an very realistic approach and as such rifle kills dont come by easy. If you play it correctly infantery is in a support role for armor mortars and CAS, with the exception being confined spaces and scouting hilltops.
