PR w/ Steam BF2

Post by {GD}StevenGarcia »

Ok, so I haven't played PR in a long time and I picked up BF2 during the Steam Christmas sales. So far I have been unable to launch PR. I get to the splash screen and then it just sits there for a minute then disappears. I'm running 64-bit Win7.

What I've tried so far:

1. Autohotkey script.
Mentioned here:https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f26-pr ... eam-8.html
I get the same results with a popup that reads:

"TIMEOUT WAITING FOR BF2 RELAUNCH, PROJECT REALITY LAUNCHER FAILED."

2. Replacing BF2.exe
Mentioned here: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... ution.html
Same results.

3. Running Steam as Administrator
Same results.

Is there some sort of sticky that I missed for getting PR to work with a Steam copy of BF2? If so, I apologize. Hopefully someone has had the same issues as me and can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Is the folder set up for BF2 the same as a non-steam install, just wherever Steam stores it's game files?

I can't speak to that as I don't own a non-Steam copy.

I guess the PR directory is all I need.
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr

Where did you install yours?

If you have Vista or Win7 you could try running Steam as an admin too.

Added this to the list of things I've tried. Thanks for your help though! I really do appreciate it. :)

I've tried everything around on the forum and I can tell, it will not work . I believe the guys at PR forgot that we don't use CDs anymore... I'll keep one eye on the forum if some good idea shows up, meanwhile I'll play the vanilla BF2 or BC2

Fuck. That's not what I wanted to hear. Looks like plenty of other people are having similar issues. Ugh, I really don't want to have to buy a hardcopy. Hopefully, the next version of PR will support Steam installs. :/

In the past there have been fixes to get Steam to work, the current version is supposed to support the Stream BF2 version.
And from the (little) amount of Steam problem threads in this forum I am inclined to say it is not a common issue.

Did you start BF2 once and retrieved an account before starting PR? This will initialize profile files which are needed by PR.
