No, the M4 is not the M4A1, which is the fully automatic version of it. But that actually has been discussed and even linked to in this very thread.

America did not have a best anything untill after WW II when they got their hands on German scientists. Soon they worked toegether with their nato allies on new hardware. As far as the small arms goes, they sticked with what their guys came up with.
American Military small arms are far from being the envy of the world, although I am confident that todays AR-15 is better than what was supplied to the arms 30 years ago.

One weapon disproves your theory: M259 SAW. It's pretty epic at just about everything.

Seeing as y'all intend on turning this into a vs thread (and it wasn't a very good discussion point to begin with) I've locked the thread.
The US weapons currently ingame realistically, within the limits of the game engine, reflect the weapons currently employed by US forces. The US have rifles with 3 round burst instead of full auto because that is what they have in reality - the current issue weapons, the M16A2, M4 and M16A4 are all restiricted to 3 round burst. The characteristics of weapons ingame are based on what our Military Advisors say.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
Many thanks to [R-DEV]Adriaan for the sig!
