Skirmish neglected?

Title sez, but i was wondering that i've seen a huge drop in the few skirmish rounds played on many servers, the reason the admins always give me is "it kills the server" but i don't really buy that explanation.

I remember back in .85 when they were played, well, not quite a lot, but still. The server always got full quicker than with INS or AAS sometimes the firefights were so hectic i couldn't help but to laugh all the time. It was the perfect snacktime round between the larger matches.

Now it's all gone, i was just wondering if the developers are going to support the underplayed gamemodes like skirmish a little bit more. PR is not about them, but i'm kinda getting tired of playing the same maps over and over with the same game modes. I can't change the admins' heads but i wanted know the public's opinion on this?

They don't work in real gameplay and tend to make people rage etc. They are spammy and VERY vanilla-y with a full 64 player server. 1KM (except fallujah and korengal) as well as skirmish maps are used only to seed servers when the server has been restarted or something similar.

They're also intended for smaller clan ladder leagues ranging up to 10v10 players.

Both good points, but i still can't get over the fact that the intense action it provides is a rare delicacy.

I don't always like playing MW2 or Vanilla for it, i like the challenge shooting in PR offers.

I always like the Skirmish rounds at the start of an evening to get the server going. Small hectic fights with PR rules. Indeed, shame they arent played so much.

If you want to play a few round skirmish, join us at GIS combatzone (europe). We usually always fill the server with some skirmish rounds. That is around 12h -16h middle european time.

I hate them with a passion and will always leave if a skirmish map comes up in rotation.
They are also horrible for seeding.

Think its been proven that skirmish is a good serverstarter. Who would want to play i.e Silent Eagle when its 5 vs 5?
However, don't really want a skirmish between maps...unless the server crashed hehe.

To threadstarter. If you are looking for top infantrycombat you should join MeRK-server on sundays. They've held it twice now and it's been awesome. Full cooperation between squads and really intense fighting throughout evening.

Its good beetween long rounds. Miss spamming HAT`s on kashan bunkers.

I love skirmish, but rage so much (as do a lot of people) due to the randomness of CQB victories (brought on by a few factors that are unavoidable in PR).

With a Top Gun squad of pilot kits however.. It can be VERY fun..

(Albeit exaggerating those issues).

We got our server for skirmish maps.

But you must have any skill from CS or vBF2 and you must know PR recoil system.If you know that - your been successful player.

And you must remember - if your squad who played most of the time on SK servers,they completely can be play on AAS,but rarely this rule work with AAS ->SK players.

For example - a)Remember last PR World Cup?Who wons?Do you know why? - 90% of winners team are players of RUPRL(RUssian Project Reality League) where we play 6x6 or 8x8 battles on skirmish maps.

Also...
if you want to play as skilled player - play skirmish maps first as a training.

I absolutely love skirmish maps. That is, if the right conditions have been met. This includes not having too many players and actual teamwork.

I do know plenty of PR players that would like nothing more than to play just skirmish maps, but leave the server once it's been seeded enough, and Muttrah 64 comes on (yet, again). A minor spoiler here: There might be coming a 36 slot server (3 full squads per team) which only runs skirmish maps. Cannot relay much more information since the plan is stil in a beta stage

The black water server runs skrim maps most of the night. Usually a good set of guys, population goes up on weekends. Pop in a play a round with us.

Skirmish maps can be really fun. i love the somewhat spammy nature of it on a packed server. you can also practice and hone your infantry skills a lot from skirmish maps since it's constant combat when on a full server.

What bothers me is the players' reaction, not the game mode itself. Because it seems some people think they're back in BF2 and it really is difficult to find a squad playing in an organized way.

I'd say it's probably because of the improvement of the mod's vehicles and kits.. or what I call "toys". I played skirmish with a clan for nearly a year. Had great fun playing other clans. I planned most of the strategies we used, but I began to miss playing the bigger maps, the assets and of course bigger strategy challenges. Now I don't think I could go back to skirmish except for a game here and there.
