My new GFX card

Post by sharpshootertrig »

OK so I got my new GFX card through the post 2 days ago, it is a Nvidia GTX 460 1GB palit sonic edition over clocked, and it cost me ?180

I installed it OK, i ran ArmA 2 maxed out AA on medium and i got 30-40 fps.
Then i try to play Crysis, 1 minute into the 1st mission and my PC reboots itself :?
Then i try Red Faction Guerrilla, same thing happens within 5 minutes.
Now i checked my GPU temps, and it never goes above 55c, so i put in my GTS 250 to make sure it is the card and as i expected, it is fine, No restarts and no problem.
If someone has any idea what is wrong with my new card, i would really love to know and would appreciate any help. :)
Thanks guys

Moved to the correct forum.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Ok, i found out that as soon as my GPU reaches 61 c the PC restarts.
Does anyone know how to disable this temp alarm?

If your card is reaching 61 degrees then something is very wrong... Check the fan of the gfx card if its working, then you have to make a better air flow towards the card. Adding a fan on the box next to the gfx card should do the trick.

61 c is perfectly fine (it is at that temp while playing Crysis BTW)

Anyway i managed to get a program that allows me to change the alarm temp of my GPU, so problem is solved :D

Thanks for all the help guys :)

You only have to worry about the heat if it gets 90c+ (older card have lower resistance.) I suggest to keep it under 80c though just to be on the safe side since extended use at high temperatures can wear out the card sooner. :)
