It is somewhat common knowledge that a number of attack helicopters have the ability to modulate the firing angle of rocket pod systems to fire at an angle below the aircraft. While implementing the modulation as a range of options would be very difficult, I think it would be possible and beneficial to implement a single alternate firing angle for the rockets by using mag-linking and the second "weapon" on the helicopters. The angle would line up with the gunner facing trackbox on the HUD for easier targeting, and the main benefit of this would be that attack helos wouldn't always have to make high-speed diving attack runs to strike targets with their rockets.
Sample implementation on the Apache:
Weapon 1: 38 Hydras (maglinked), straight firing angle (as they are currently); 2 sidewinders.
Weapon 2: 38 Hydras (maglinked), 'x' degree downward firing angle; display flare count.
Depending on ease of implementation, I may futz around with the code and see if I can't get it to function in this manner on the Apache. If I do, I'll post a video of it in action.

Re: Angle options for attack helo rocket pods
You could also have the angles be lined up by using the Q button (like for the gls) that reads at what angle the rockets will fly at ( 0, -5, -10 ect...).
Though we have to think about this, would this be too hard for too little 'pay' (for lack of better word atm)?

Love this idea.

I do believe that this is an resuggestion...
IFAIK is impossible due to engine limitations.

I thought the same thing Dreamer, but in the case it is possible the max downward angle should probably be 15-30 degrees

ye it is possible, in the same way that in BFP2 you can change the angle of your cannons on your ship with razing/lowering them but its more a question of buttons to do it hehe.Mora wrote:Its not impossible at all afaik.
Another small problem is that the HUD would some how need to change with the angle to compensate but umm, where the missile would hit as on the HUD would drastically change depending on the range of the target if it was angled down very far, unless I'm not thinking clearly.

Re: Angle options for attack helo rocket pods
This has been suggested before, but never with such a specific and workable solution. Given that it's a resuggestion, and further discussion will not accomplish anything (since we all agree it's basically a good idea), I'm going to close this thread. If anyone decides to experiment with it, feel free to post something up in community modding.
