How to use AA

Post by Puslox »

I checked the whole PR manual, but either I am blind, or it isn't in the manual; when I shoot the AA launcher, does the target have to be in the upper circle, or somewhere else?

just in the center of the big circle mate, you hear the tone which means you can shoot. The rest is up to the skill of the pilot, if he flares too late or doesn't perform evasive manouvres (i.e. flying so that his flares protect him rather than attract the missle near him) he'll die.

A tip for using the AA is to shoot only when you are sure that you will get a kill other than that... Just aim at him and make him drop flares.. this way he would have to land soon!
Shoot him when he flies close to you, or towards you!
Remember not to shoot when the enemy jet is getting away from you...
and if you are planning to shoot, Shoot instantly when you get the lock on, Because you will have a half second gap until he hears the lock on tone and starts dropping flares.
From the above you can know that a good pilot always drops flares to avoid getting a lock on him at all.

The range feels a bit short. Don't know if it has setup time or what, but Foxxy here couldn't lock onto it from this distance.

Funnily enough we shot both of them down with AA and a HAT 2 minutes later.

You have to wait 30 seconds before being able to lock on and shoot.

It has good range, I am able to lock on Hueys on the Muttrah docks from the Fortress with the Strela, the problem is EVERY time I hear the lock-on tone and fire (the Hueys don't even drop countermeasures) the Strela just goes straight, doesn't even turn slightly to hit the target...

Alright, thanks. This sort of confused me. Btw, another question.

I fired a AT missile (RPG) at a BTR which was directly beneath me (I was on a mountain top, the APC was on a road far below), and when I shot the RPG, it just dissapeared. I don't think I was too close to it, since I shot targets which were way more close.

And another question; A suicide lorry drove to us, and killed 2 of my teammates which were further away from it then I was, but yet, I survived it with minor wounds, but they both died.

Are you talking about handheld AA?

As I understand, it has the same range as regular AA. You can lock out of view distance on most maps.

There's 2 tones, in case you didn't know. The one tone indicates that there's a target it's locking onto, the second is that it's locked on. It takes like 2 full seconds to lock on.

The SA7 does have a tendancy to curve stright up over 600m I find.

Pretty much all missiles do that when they lose sight of a target object. (If they are given the code, which most aa are I think to avoid spamming them at the ground).

All AA missiles really need to be fired at max lock range to ensure the missile has time to actually fly into the target.

Or extremely close range, in which case you are pretty much firing an unguided rocket with a prox fuse.
